What is the Web3?

The Internet that we know today, and in which most people are still present, that layer of the Internet called Web 2.0, is the one where centralized companies like GoogleFacebookYouTubeInstagram and WhatsApp to name a few examples, provide their services in exchange for their users' data, that is, us.

When we create an account in these applications we give these companies the power to use our data for their daily use and/or sell it to third parties, this is their business model, to the point that they obtain large volumes of money just for knowing our tastes, our motivations, personal life and even almost being able to control ourselves with the data that we provide through the use of big data and data mining, and perhaps at some point the Internet could become like the television series Westworld shows it; but to the point that we are going, will the network of networks always be like this or will we, at some point, be able to be the owners of our data and the content that we share on it?

That is when Web3, formerly called Web 3.0, emerged, it's the Internet layer that aims to recover the decentralization of its early days, reducing the dependence of users on large companies and giving them back control over their data, incorporating decentralized applications running on the blockchain.

This generation of the Internet focuses on the semantic web with the use of linked data where it merges the content with its users as authors of it, and not just as flat information. Now users not only read and post content, but also own it.

Compared to its predecessor, this version is built on a decentralized peer-to-peer protocol between users belonging to the same network, who interact through the front-end of websites built for it that have, in turn, artificial intelligence and smart contracts as programming paradigms.

Another of its characteristics is its transparency, which mitigates corruption and non-repudiation of users, empowered by advanced security, confidentiality and token economy that allows rewards for content as a payment method. In other words, users can be rewarded for contributing to the ecosystem they are in through value-added tokens.

The Web3 is the beginning of a new stage in the history of humanity, something like this had never been seen, where any person, regardless of their work area or what they do, in addition to owning the content they create, can generate income from it.

Currently this technology is being applied in different branches such as art, medicine, prosecution, video games, agriculture, music, data engineering and the construction of a parallel world to ours called Metaverse, where users can choose to be who they want to be, using forms of representation of characters such as avatars or players with which they can access.

This is all for today, although many people already know about this variant of Internet, there are others who do not, and it's for whom this article is most focused, so you would help many people if you shared it so that they can understand that the world is changing right now and that they can also change with it as they enter this wonderful journey that is just beginning. See you in a next tutorial! Cheers!
