Chinese elements are not just wood. Look at the creativity of Canadian designers

Introduction: Oriental aesthetics has always occupied a very important position in the history of world art, especially the aesthetics represented by China has always been favored by western scholars. (source: Design mania)

Since the 20th century, some Western designers have widely applied this aesthetics to their designs. For example, the design giant Hans Wagner’s Chinese chair is designed based on the traditional Ming style furniture ‘armchair’.

Maria, who was once rated as the top 10 Spanish interior designers and hereditary aristocrats in the world, founded the home design brand coleccion Alexandra in 1975, which is famous for its unique taste and creative design. Since the establishment of the brand, both furniture, cloth art, lighting and accessories have always paid attention to the power of design and the design of Chinese elements, such as the following two home designs.

Recently, Toronto design studio in Canada has also focused on the application of Chinese elements. This group of works is the first in the hi thanks bye series jointly created by Canadian Chinese designers Stein Wang and Topher Kong last year. On the basis of absorbing Chinese gardens, they also learned from the pastoral terrain of fogo island.

Chinese garden art has a history of more than 3000 years since the emergence of yin and Zhou dynasties. It is one of the countries with the earliest origin of garden art in the world. It occupies a very important position in the history of world gardens, and has an extremely superb artistic level and unique national style.

The difference between Chinese gardens and the west is that they pay attention to symmetry and fit with landscape painting. Therefore, there will be many trees, flowers and plants dotted among them. It can be said that this green atmosphere is in harmony with the garden scenery of Canada. Therefore, this set of furniture design chose dark green as the theme color. It consists of a dining chair, a side table, a carpet, a bar stool, a floor lamp and a screen that also serves as a shelf. Each product has its own characteristics.

Tassel table lamp

What makes this table lamp different is the tassel design above, which reminds people of the tassel curtain in the interior of Chinese classical architecture or the tassel under the lantern, and the bending of the steel pipe is very simple and atmospheric. After turning on the lamp, the light passes through the tassel, euphemistic and romantic, which is very beautiful in the East.

Dining chair

The design of dining chair is more Chinese style. The combination of round and square is very similar to the shape of hardwood chair in the Qing Dynasty, and the square and round represents heaven and earth. In terms of material, it is also made of metal as the frame and matched with coarse textile cloth. It is simple and fashionable. The collision of this material symbolizes the collision of eastern and Western cultures, which is very readable.

screen

This screen design can be said to break people’s imagination of the screen in the past. It is composed of two layers of metal plates, which are divided into several small grids in the middle to store things. The two metal plates are cut with holes of different sizes, reminiscent of the partition windows of Chinese gardens.

Bar chair and side table

The design language of the two products is relatively consistent. The bracket is made of metal pipe bent to support the metal sheet above, and the metal plate of the bar chair is bent downward to make people more comfortable and safe when they rest and sit down. The highlight of the side table is the curved legs, like a sitting dog, very cute and vivid.

carpet

Perhaps among the several products, the one that can best represent the rural characteristics of Canada. The carpet area is not large. It is decorated with green in different colors. It wants to be surrounded by green lakes surrounded by trees. Due to the same color of the whole set of products, although it draws lessons from the different designs of the East and the west, it is very harmonious and unified.

From these products, it can be seen that the two Chinese designers use their unique cultural and academic experience to interpret the significance of furniture to cross continent contemporary life. We have also seen new forms of expression of traditional Chinese elements.
