Journaling Session #1: What are your long-term goals and why?
In the next three to five years, I see my family living in a large house with lots of land in the front and backyard. We will have lots of outside time! I see us building treehouses, tents, an in-ground swimming pool, tire swings, and more.
My second long-term goal is being a speaker for TED Talks. I believe there’s more to the mental health game than what we know. Plus, I see myself reviving the Malcom X philosophy—black separatism in various parts of our community, especially education and therapy.
The next long-term goal is marriage. Although my husband and I aren’t traditionally married, he’s still someone I want to be with for the rest of my life. I don’t see myself wandering around and falling for someone else. He already knows what aches me and occasionally makes me happy on the inside and out.
Rolling into our final long-term goal! This goal is especially special to me because this will kick start something wild (like, really wild). I want to be a psychotherapist and create a change through talk and art therapy. Aside from the mental health quirks, I also know this is my true calling. I want to help someone get better, not worse.
The “why” ties together with each goal. I see and believe I will achieve these things because my family deserves better, my husband deserves way much better, and I deserve to grow old comfortably, doing what I love doing while taking care of other hobbies I like or love to do.
Now I’m putting the question back on you…
What are your long-term goals and why?!
