A statement issued by the general staff of the Ukrainian army (AGS) said that the Ukrainian army launched a bombing attack on the Russian command center in Kharkov from April 30 to May 1. Ukrainian military said the attack killed about 200 Russian troops, including a major general. According to the New York Times on May 1, a senior Ukrainian official who asked not to be named said that the chief of general staff of the Russian armed forces, grasimov, personally inspected the eastern front line of Ukraine late last week to “change the Russian offensive”. Grasimov is the highest ranking officer in Russia.

The Ukrainian official said that Ukraine was informed of the inspection in advance, but “did not catch” grasimov in time. When the Ukrainian military launched an attack on the 12th school in izyum, Kharkov, the Russian military command center inspected by grasimov on the evening of April 30, he had left for Russia.

According to the statement issued by the general staff of the Ukrainian army (AGS), the Ukrainian army bombed the Russian military command center in idum city from April 30 to May 1.

The Ukrainian official further said that about 200 Russian troops died in the bombing, including at least one major general. The New York Times further said that according to Ukrainian military information, the person who died in the bombing was major general Andrei Simonov, the head of the Russian radio communication department.

The United States partially confirmed Ukraine’s statement. Two unnamed U.S. officials confirmed that grasimov had been in eastern Ukraine in the past few days, but did not disclose information about the attack on the Russian command center.

Idum is a medium-sized city in Kharkov state in eastern Ukraine. The New York Times said that the 12th school in idum was used as a military base by the second Russian joint armed group army and airborne troops deployed in the region. According to senior Ukrainian officials, grasimov arrived in eastern Ukraine on the 28th, visited the 12th school during the day on April 30, and left for Russia before the Ukrainian army launched the night attack.

Previously, Ukraine’s Kiev post, the British Daily Mail and other media quoted former Ukrainian interior minister Arsen avakov as saying that grasimov was injured by shrapnel near idum, but this news has not been officially confirmed by either Russia or Ukraine.

Former Ukrainian interior minister Arsen avakov said that grasimov was injured by shrapnel.

Russian political scientist Valery solovei seems to confirm this statement in a public article. “There’s no danger of a third of the shrapnel being taken out of his right shin,” mosev said. But this is not official news.

According to the Kiev post, Oleksiy arestovych, an adviser to the Ukrainian presidential office, said in an interview on the evening of April 30 that the artillery had “completely destroyed” a Russian command center in the Kharkov region.

Alestovich said Simonov’s death was very likely, but “needs to be confirmed”. According to his estimation, the number of Russian officers and command center staff killed and injured in the bombing was between 100 and 300. But he did not comment on the statement about grasimov.

Ukrainian Pravda also pointed out on the 1st that the news of grasimov’s injury is not true. Ukrainian Pravda said that before the bombing, at about 14:00 Kiev time on May 1, three Tu-154 transport planes had arrived in the area, and grasimov was likely to have left by plane at that time.
