The Future of Genetic Research

Private genetic sequencing organisations are stealing your data, and there is nothing you can do…yet.

Ancestry.com and 23&Me are both commercial genetic sequencing and health data providers that allow people to sequence their DNA without having to enter a lab for the small cost of $100, but what are they not telling you?

Well, I can answer that for you. They are not telling you that they are entirely disregarding your privacy and ownership of the DNA you have provided them but selling it off to secondary parties like Universities and Research institutions.

Now I know what you must be thinking, “this person is insane; how could they do that without asking me first? That is illegal” well, that has never stopped anyone. In saying that, they both have knowledgeable legal counsel that works their agenda into the fine prints of their Terms and Conditions that you are willing to sign without reading it.

There have also been countless investigations into both these entities to uncover the truth, and this is what they found:

I don’t know about you, but I did not vote to be part of Anne Wojcicki’s science experiment.

What solution do I want to build?

I am looking to build the worlds first genetic research DAO to create a future where people can control their DNA and what research it is used for.

I will discuss what this entails and the roadmap in detail in posts to come. However, I will say this, the goal in the long term is to eventually create a tight-knit community and have the same understanding that was truly owning your genetic data is of utmost importance. I would love to go down the road of forming the DAOs very own research centre, with labs and scientists built using the DAOS treasury and ultimately controlled by the people providing the essential data being their genetic data.

The short term goal is to start marketing and gaining a following around the cause.

I have a plan for how this DAO will be structured and the model that will be implemented. I am thinking of a Data coalition model on the blockchain in which users can stake their genetic data.

Anyway, bye for now, but please follow me on Twitter, and I hope to join forces with the forward thinkers of the world! @JettNathan3

Let’s build.
