Solution To Crowd-Building An Open Metaverse

Punks, apes, and cats — the warriors that built this town — will be outcasted by the tech giants.

Our journey to find a solution started with @punk6529’s ethos in crowd-building an open metaverse to be liberated from an in-game closed store.

And we’ve finally discovered a solution.

Is Metaverse a Joke?

To the normies, a superset of virtual and augmented realities and JPEG avatars is perceived as far more intangible than reward stars on the Starbucks app. This intangibility derived from the discrepancy between the technological advancement of blockchain and real-life use cases is turning the metaverse into a joke, even among us.

But some of the most intelligent people in tech are building to plant a flag in the new universe. Tech giants are marching forward to dominate what is anticipated to be a $426.9B industry by 2027.

This is good. This is great. Tech giants have the resources to solve the problem we’ve been struggling with since day one: User experience. The social applications we call Metaverse today are clunky. The UX issues are a colossal entry barrier to onboarding more users.

On the other side, the tech giants are building a walled garden that will be managed centrally. We already can’t access Meta’s platform without a Facebook account. Even with an account, we can’t even hang a picture of our verified JPEG animals on the virtual wall.

So, what does this mean for us?

Punks, apes, cats, other animals and aliens — the warriors that built this town — will become outcasts. Avatars, virtual spaces and other digital collectibles will not be interoperable in a walled garden.

We’ll be under the illusion of experiencing an interconnected universe with interoperable assets. But the truth is that only digital assets and apps designed under the given criteria will be able to enter their closed metaverse and closed in-game stores. And this is after a thorough review by a centralized party.

We‘ve been doing well. We’ve succeeded in building small towns where Punks, Apes and Cats call home and engraved marks of a new civilization on the blockchain. But just no roads to interconnect different tribes. No advanced enough platform to call it a grand social hub. Look at us still stuck in the proto-metaverse. Look at us still using Twitter and Discord.

Meanwhile, web3 social apps are being built to conquer the social castle with the same understanding.

Avatar is an essential layer of digital identity that enables us to express ourselves freely and anonymously in the web3 space.

In other words, we, the PFP/gaming communities, are the target users of all social apps.

As more social apps open their gateways to virtual 2D/3D worlds, the communication method boundaries will expand from text/voice to face/body expressions. How we roam the metaverse will become noticeably similar to the real world.

We, the target end users, are ready for real-world-like communication. But the tech is not ready.

  • There’s no efficient solution for PFP/gaming teams to rig and MoCap*-enable their entire collection.

  • There’s no efficient solution for web3 social apps to integrate MoCap*-ready avatars.

  • *MoCap = Motion Capture

This solution deficiency drives the development cost exponentially and incentivizes social apps and avatar teams to keep the developed solution to themselves. And then… they’re building a walled garden.

Competition is good; it is what facilitates today’s market. But we’ll never be able to crowd-build an open system to make the default decision for corporates to join.

Our journey started with @punk6529’s ethos in crowd-building an open metaverse to make the default decision for corporations to join before we are encapsulated in an in-game closed store. And we’ve discovered a solution to create an open system for everyone to join.

TL;DR

  • PFP/gaming Teams: provide instant utility to the community by being interoperated into various social apps

  • Web3 Social Apps: mass-integrates MoCap-enabled PFP/gaming avatars & instantly onboard their communities into the app

  • Community Members: use their NFT-powered avatars in various social apps. All free.

Solution

To create an open system for everyone to join we’ve discovered the followings:

  • a free solution for PFP/gaming teams to MoCap-enable entire collections & be mass-interoperated into social apps

  • a free solution for web3 social apps to integrate Mocap-ready avatar stack & mass-onboard communities

Open source everything

To develop an accessible, decentralized solution where all participants — social apps, PFP/gaming teams, and users — benefit, someone in this space had to craft the public tools necessary to connect the broken roads between communities.

What is open source?
”Open source is a source code that is made freely available for possible modification and redistribution.”
”The open-source model is a decentralized software development model that encourages open collaboration”

The solution that we suggest encompasses two open sources that anyone can freely use, modify and redistribute:

  • MYTY KIT

  • MYTY SDK

MYTY Kit

MYTY Kit is an open-source tool designed for Avatar Creators. Avatar Creators are PFP/gaming project teams and anyone who wants to make their NFT-powered avatars interoperable in web3 social apps by MoCap-enabling the avatars.

MYTY Kit enables Avatar Creators to mass-rig and evolve the collection into cross-app-ready, MoCap-enabled avatars with zero animation background. MoCap-enabling is the fundamental step in becoming a cross-app avatar for social apps.

Save your money. No need to hire an animation studio.

Once the rigging/animation is completed through MYTY Kit, Avatar Creators can upload and register the completed file to Avatar Registry. Avatar Registry is the hub where all the registered MoCap-enabled avatars are stored.

That’s it. Nothing more Avatar Creators have to do.

MYTY SDK

Now, let’s talk about how these MoCap-enabled avatars will gain instant utility by being interoperated in social apps.

MYTY SDK MYTY SDK is an open-source SDK (Software Development Kit) for Web3 social application developers.

MYTY SDK enables social app developers to mass-integrate MoCap-enabled avatars & instantly onboard their communities into the app.

Save your time. Onboard countless communities into your app from Day 1 by adding a couple of lines of code served by us.

Once the source codes are implemented in the app, every avatar in the Avatar Registry becomes usable on your Android, iOS, Windows, macOS and Chrome apps.

Bird’s Eye View

Zooming out, here’s the complete picture of crowd-building an open system.

  • PFP/gaming Teams: provide instant utility to the community by being interoperated into various social apps.

  • Web3 Social Apps: mass-integrates MoCap-enabled PFP/gaming avatars & instantly onboard their communities into the app

  • Community Members: use their NFT-powered avatars in various social apps.

All free. No walled garden.

How Is This An Open System?

Every corner of the closed in-app stores is managed centrally, controlling what comes in and out. MYTY infrastructure’s cornerstones, MYTY Kit and SDK, are open source that anyone can freely use, modify and redistribute.

Most importantly, MYTY infrastructure allows all the players to be dependent on each other — eliminating any incentive to outcast one another.

  • Whenever an avatar is added, apps onboard more community

  • Whenever an app is added, PFP/gaming teams & communities gain instant utility

Everyone wins.

MYTY is not a Camera App Developer

To the public, we may have been seen as an animator and camera app dev because of MYTY Camera — a free virtual camera app that allows anyone to video chat and stream with NFT-powered avatars. But we’ve been experimenting with MYTY Camera to craft and upgrade the tools necessary to crow-build an open system.

By building MYTY Camera with MYTY Kit and MYTY SDK, we have accomplished the followings:

  • Upgraded MYTY Kit to provide a better rigging experience for Avatar Creators

  • Upgraded MYTY SDK to enable seamless integration for App Developers

Now, MYTY Kit and MYTY SDK are ready

Since 2021

From the moment @punk6529 shared his ethos in crowd-building an open metaverse to be liberated from an in-game closed store in 2021, we’ve been building for this moment. After two years, the open metaverse is being crowd-built.

The warriors that built this town are in joint force on a mission to connect the broken roads between different tribes and to be liberated from a walled garden of the tech giants.

This is how we will crowd-build an open system to make the default decision for tech giants to join.
