I heard Alan Watts describe a fantasy about life, where society had made television so interactive and immersive that people wanted to lose themselves in the story. The best way was to forget about life outside the film, so they engineered forgetfulness.

It’s impossible to disprove this metaphysical idea – that we engineered forgetfulness and already live in a virtual reality. Like the movie Inception, how many layers deep will we go?
