In line with current macro and crypto turmoil, all 7 metaverses listed on OneLand witnessed further declines in trading volumes. Aggregated trade volume had a steep downturn, -47.62%, in a dip almost 4 times the size of last week’s. Meanwhile, 7-day aggregated land caps fell, but at a slower rate: -2.58%, compared to 4.67% last week.
This week, several metaverses, notably The Sandbox and Decentraland, held a series of online and IRL-linked events to help celebrate Pride Week and NYC Pride Parade 2022.
Meanwhile, 35 leading global tech firms announced (including Meta and Microsoft, but not Roblox, The Sandbox or Decentraland) they would launch the Metaverse Standard Forum.
And the decentralized Metaverse responded in kind. On June 21, $SAND surged 48.8% from to $1.28, transfers hitting an ATH of 833.5 x its volume 24hrs earlier. Likewise, Decentraland’s $MANA saw a price uptick of 23%. Investors were spotted reacting/contributing to the growing price action — a 76% hike in volume pushed up OneLand’s Metaverse Heat Index to 79.6 over the weekend.
OneLand data shows land caps all up for the week (in ETH) in what appears a “friendly return” to the “previous normal” of a few months back. Ironically only Otherside slipped, down 1.2%.
Voxels and NFT Worlds had good weeks, recording recoveries in trade volume and land cap. Voxels’ sales this week of 6 ETH and 5.98 ETH became 2 of their top 3 sales of Q2. It moved the average price up 31%. Meanwhile, NFT World #4905 sold for 8.87 ETH in NFT Worlds’ highest sale since June 1.
Though land caps were up, the bear market was still clear to see in volumes for The Sandbox, Decentraland and WorldWide Webb’s, all of them suffering big 7-day dips.
Average prices were mostly up for the week (except for Decentraland and Somnium Space), with sales numbers down across the board, which illustrates just how easily lower trade volumes can co-exist with higher land caps and prices, particularly when retail investors get cautious.
Somnium Space has begun to struggle a bit in the current crypto winter, recording just 9 sales in the past 3 weeks. However, its loyal base of players and landowners seem to be going nowhere — holder numbers are stable with 1 week ago, with 1 month ago, and +190% for the year.
