Meta Rankings (7D)

In a healthy start to the year for crypto, Metaverse land NFTs were hardly immune from the action. OneLand 7-day data reveals total market cap for the 10 projects listed on OneLand rose 16.76% week-on-week to 934,311.67 ETH, or $1.18 billion.

Context:

• Treeverse records its highest daily volume (34 ETH) in 8 months with volumes +250% and sales +158%, as its Pre-Alpha kicks off.

• The Sandbox (19.95 ETH) and BYOPills (3.0 ETH) achieved their highest land sales since September.

Highlight:

Decentraland land cap is up 26% week-on-week from 204,510 ETH to 265,018 ETH. The fully decentralized virtual world achieved its highest sale for an Estate (111.42 ETH) in 11 months.

Otherdeeds recorded the 3rd highest NFT trade volume in 2022 at $1.1 billion, behind Yuga Labs’ other blue-chip NFT projects BAYC and MAYC. The crucial difference — Otherside is a metaverse, and users who mint Otherdeed NFTs can secure a plot of land within Otherside.

NFT Worlds

• Jan 3

NFT Worlds has eyeballed 2023 for a huge comeback following the disaster that befell it when Mojang banned NFTs from Minecraft servers. NFT Worlds is building its blockchain infrastructure using gaming API Meta Fab, and looking to onboard 1 million + players in its first year of public release.

FTX

• Jan 3–8

Ex-FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) pleaded not guilty to charges of fraud in a New York courtroom on Jan 3 (having taken to Twitter on NYE to deny moving Alameda-linked funds).

Meanwhile, the US Justice Department seized 56m Robinhood shares of SBF (approx. $450m), while prosecutors launched a website to notify SBF‘s allegedly more than 1 million victims.

Animoca Brands

• Jan 5

Animoca Brands kicked off 2023 by cutting its metaverse fund target to $1 billion. It previously suggested a value of up to $2 billion.

DappRadar <> Decrypt

• Jan 5

NFT sales volumes in 2022 nearly matched the 2021 boom despite recent months of falling sales and prices, according to data from DappRadar.

Decrypt’s article details the ebbs and flows in NFT trading across 2022 — through boom, bust and bear, the mint of Otherdeeds, Luna/UST crash and FTX collapse.

Coinbase

• Jan 5

Coinbase announced a $50m settlement with financial regulators (NYDFS) over failings in its compliance systems, and vowed another $50m to upgrade them. COIN shares jumped near 15% on the news.

CES 2023

• Jan 5–8

The Metaverse, Web3 and gaming featured at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas’ Convention Center Central Hall, where the biggest exhibitors tend to appear.

Metaverse & Gaming, Creator Economy & NFTs and Digital Hollywood were some of the metaverse-related tracks at CES 2023.

Illuvium deployed its Zero Alpha game exclusively to Landowners, and published an explainer video. Zero is a F2P industrial building game available on mobile, PC and Mac.

The Sandbox

TRIX and Y.GRAM’s joint NFT collection, I LOVE KARACTER, went live in The Sandbox Marketplace. NFT buyers can share revenue from character model fees among other benefits.

LG also struck a deal with cloud streaming firm Oorbit, that will enable users to enjoy virtual worlds and experiences such as virtual concerts on LG Smart TVs.

H&M<>Dubit

• Jan 4

H&M partnered with metaverse studio Dubit to launch immersive gaming experience Loooptopia on Roblox. The game allows players to experiment with materials and patterns, and create a virtual garment and wardrobe for their avatar.
