1. Market Data & Analysis

OneLand data shows 7-day aggregate trading volume for the 7 metaverses listed up 12.19% in a reversal of last week’s performance, with holders slightly up (+0.29%) and land market cap steady (-0.09%).

Only Decentraland witnessed a notable weekly decline in land cap, while trading volume was up across the board, except for The Sandbox (-24.7%) and Voxels (-56.3%).

With most VRE priced in ETH, prices may have benefited from ETH’s 7-day recovery of 15.58%, despite the currency sitting far below its November ATH of $4,891. The 7-day increase of 6.55% in the Metaverse Index is also consistent with the recovery in prices.

Indeed, 5 out of the 7 metaverses saw their 7-day average price rise. Voxels (+19.1%) and Somnium Space (+4.6%) both enjoyed their highest priced sales since June. In contrast, Voxels’ volume (-56.3%) and sales count (-61.9%) suffered significant declines, indicating the potential for parcels in Voxels to be traded at (current market) premiums despite lower frequency of transactions.

Meanwhile, Somnium Space’s 7-day price was up 40.1%, kicking off the week with a 4.50 ETH sale on Monday then seeing 4 sales (top price 3.99 ETH) concentrated on Thursday.

Worldwide Webb, interestingly, saw a 206% weekly spike in volume, and 4.6% price rise, as it enjoyed its largest daily sales counts (33 on July 14, and 35 on July 17) in over a month.

The positive turnaround occurred just a day after Worldwide Webb’s V2 Development Updates went live on Twitter. During the update, founder Dylan Hattem and engineers shared the ability for gamers to see all 700 players rendered on screen, with real-time chatting, which may have contributed to an uptick in trade. Worldwide Webb sales were up 190% for the week, while the 30-day turnover rate jumped to 3.1%, indicating a higher level of liquidity for Apartments.

Meanwhile, it was a decent week for Otherside as they launched their first official demo — trading volume +16.1% and average price +12.1%.

Crypto lender Celsius Network notified US state regulators Wednesday to initiate bankruptcy proceedings. Celsius suspended withdrawals on its platform following disclosure of a $1.2 billion hole in its balance sheet.

Dunamu

• July 12

South Korean blockchain firm Dunamu is investing 500 billion won ($380 million) in Web3 startups with plans to create 10,000 job openings in the next 5 years.

Animoca Brands

• July 12

Animoca Brands raised $75.32m from investors in a second tranche of funding first announced in January 2022. Animoca says their goal is to “support the development of an open Metaverse and improve digital property rights for the gaming industry through blockchain and NFTs.”

Spain

• July 12

Spain’s government announced it will issue over $4 million in grants to metaverse-related projects. Recipients should be based in the EU or Spain, with the first batch to be focused on the gaming and entertainment sector.

Decentraland

• July 13

Decentraland DAO passed a $120,000 grant to fund SandStorm’s monthly metaverse builder contest. Sandstorm enables builders to mint assets from multiple virtual worlds to showcase their builds to brands.

OpenSea

• July 16

OpenSea has announced it will be cutting 20% of its workforce according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.
