Join us in this dialogue as we explore the enigmatic world of an artist who defies categorization.
➩ What ignited your journey into the crypto art world?
Was strange, I also work as an illustrator and art director for illustration projects and in 2021 was hired for a PFP project. I had no clue what was about but I did the project and the client was so happy that wanted to compensate me for the work I have done. So he introduced me to the NFT space, explained me the general concepts, how it worked, that I had to build a community, create a Twitter account and connect with people and I did it. Was crazy, fun and a real challenge.
➩ Could you describe a typical day for you, from start to finish?
I get up very early, at 6 A.M cause I have to take my daughters to school. Then I get back home, have breakfast and start working. As I work with digital and physical art I have divided my days: in the mornings I usually work with digital art and after lunch I go to my studio where I work with physicals, mainly monotypes, drawings and paintings. After work I usually go to the gym and then at home, prepare dinner and go to bed. Not very fun , sorry
➩ Throughout all of history, who stands out to you as your favorite artist?
There are a lot of artists I deeply admire. I love Oehlen, Klee, Kandinsky, Gorky, Richter, Miro, Picasso and some Argentinian artists like Berni, Alonso, Stupia and Daniel Garcia.
➩ Got any wisdom for those just dipping their toes into crypto art?
I am not a good advisor but all I can say is that hard work and patience are the keys at least to me. I always try to improve my skills, my art, always try to get better and better. I am always studying, experimenting, trying new techniques, new media and of course it’s important to have fun in the meantime. If you don’t enjoy what you are doing, you’ll probably fail.
➩ Looking ahead, what can we expect from you in the coming months? Any sneak peeks?
I am working in a genesis for Joyn and in some VR artworks, but it’s taking me some time. I am also working in Bosch and Brueguel ‘s deconstruction, a series I have on Superrare which I deeply enjoy. In this drew inspiration from Bosch's and Bruegel’s school and digitally reinterpreted the art without using artificial intelligence. By employing digital tools, I abstracted forms, colors, and symbols, proposing a new visual narrative. My goal is to transform the visual and conceptual experience of the original work using technology as a substitute for traditional materials like oil paint. The images, characters, and symbols disintegrate, merge, and transform as much as their meaning. As a female artist, it is interesting to be able to appropriate the work of great masters from a time when art was forbidden to women and give it my own imprint. The result of this process is a complex composition dominated by geometric and organic forms, graphics, and pictorial techniques resembling spray paint and airbrush, and contemporary digital resources. In this way, it invites us to reflect on the evolution of society, spirituality, and the human condition in the contemporary era.
➩ With so much talent in the field, who do you think should be up next for an interview and what would you ask them?
Oh, it’s difficult to choose only one; there are so many talented artists. I love a lot, right now Movsum comes to my mind, I love his work. I would ask him about his creative process, if he creates sketches, how does he choose the color palette, what’s his statement and if he also creates physical art.
Epilogue
Our exchange with Luciana Guerra concludes, yet it is clear that her artistic narrative is far from its denouement. With a spirit invigorated by the digital revolution, her journey is emblematic of an era where art is redefined by the pixels of innovation and the strokes of tradition.
As she continues to explore the confluence of physical mediums and virtual realms, her story is a beacon for the transformative potential within the crypto art landscape, encapsulating the essence of an artist who is as much a pioneer as she is a student of her craft.
