Why is the unbound period for Octopus Network 21 days? Could Delegators have a shorter unbound period than Validators?

Validators and Delegators have to bear the opportunity cost for the duration of the unbound period, so naturally they want the unbound period to be as short as possible. The unbound period of Octopus Network is 21 days for two main reasons：

1. Security of the protocol: when a Validator's malicious behavior is discovered, we need enough time to penalize the Validator. From this point of view, 21 days is already the minimum period and shorter than the industry standard.
2. From the perspective of Octopus Network community governance, since no rewards will be generated during the 21-day unbound period, we hope Validators and Delegators will do their due diligence on the Appchain and make careful and comprehensive choices, consequently reducing volatility in the staking process.

The biggest difference between Octopus Network and other types of staking mechanisms is the LPoS mechanism, or Lease Security mechanism. Validators and Delegators stake OCT and are rewarded with the Appchain’s native token. For Octopus Network to be successful, the community needs to continuously support good Appchains to join Octopus Network, and Validators and Delegators need to stake on high quality Appchains with high potential and long-term value.

In addition, if the unbounding period for the Delegators is much shorter than the Validator, it will defeat the original purpose.First, this will encourage Delegators to be short-term profit-seeking. Second, it could cause the "self-delegation" issue, where a Validator could stake the minimum OCT required, and then delegate the rest of the OCT to his or her own node. This could also incentivize Validators to become short-term profit-seekers.

为什么章鱼网络的质押解锁期是21天？委托者能不能比验证人解锁周期短一些？

验证人和委托人要承担锁定流动性的期权成本，所以自然希望解锁周期越短越好。章鱼网络的质押解锁周期是 21天，这么设计主要有2个原因：

1. 协议安全性：当验证人恶意行为被发现后，我们需要有足够的时间对验证人的恶心行为完成处罚。从这个角度来说21天已经是最低限度，并且属于行业优秀。
2. 从章鱼网络社区治理的角度讲，因为21天的解锁期是没有收益的，所以希望验证人和委托者能够对生态的应用链做好尽职调查，深入研究应用链、谨慎全面的作出选择，减少质押的变动。

章鱼网络与其他项目质押机制的最大不同就是「PoS 租用安全机制」，这让验证人和委托者质押 OCT可以获得应用链的原生 Token 奖励。章鱼网络想要成功，就需要社区不断的支持好的应用链加入章鱼网络，需要验证人和委托者能去质押够优质、有潜力并且具备长期价值的应用链。

另外，委托者的解锁周期如果比验证人短很多，就会违背初衷：一方面委托者容易趋向短期逐利，另一方面也容易发生「自委托」的漏洞，就是用最低限度的OCT做验证人，然后把其余的OCT自己委托自己。这样也容易让验证人变成短期逐利者。
