The monthly metaverse data analysis report includes eight metaverse platforms: The Sandbox , Decentraland , Voxels , Somnium Space , NFT Worlds , Worldwide Webb , Otherside and Netvrk.

This report analyzes the virtual real estates of the metaverse platforms, excluding Token and Wearable.

The dimensions analyzed in this report are divided into six parts: sales, average sales price, number of sales, traffic, renting data, and MREI index.

Data Report Summary:

1. Sales

In the metaverse section, the eight largest metaverse projects reported virtual land sales of $37.69 million in January 2023, down 9.79% MoM, (up 113.89% MoM in December.) Otherside continued to see virtual land sales rise in November and December 2022, but fell back in January 2023, down 12.16% MoM. The monthly sales histogram shows that virtual land sales have continued to be low in the last six months, but the last two months have seen a significant recovery in sales.

2. Average sales price

3. Number of sales

In terms of the relationship between average sales price and sales volume, The Sandbox, NFT Worlds, and Decentraland showed a simultaneous increase in sales volume and sales price this month, with NFT Worlds being particularly prominent with a 91.87% increase in virtual sales volume Month-over-Month.

4. Traffic

Voxels’ total traffic in January 2023 was 232,000 and in December 2022 was 312,000, a 25.6% decrease in traffic year-over-year. Note: The absolute value of Decentraland’s traffic is currently higher than Voxels’, but the traffic sources are all official ports, and since the statistical caliber of different platforms may not be consistent, the results of the horizontal comparison may not be representative, so it is currently for reference only.

5. Renting Data

Virtual land Renting data was collected from https://landworks.xyz/, which currently supports virtual land leases for Decentraland and Voxels.The number of virtual lands sold by LandWorks in January 2023 was 3 (compared to 18 in December 2022) and the amount sold was $1,610 (compared to $2,689 in December 2022). The chart below shows the number of virtual lands and the amount of virtual lands sold in the weekly dimension of LandWorks.

6. MREI Index

The Metaverse Real Estate Index (MREI) is an index used to measure the price of virtual real estate in the Metaverse. It is calculated by combining sales, sales volume, and sales unit prices of eight headline Metaverse projects.As we can see from the trend graph of the MREI indicator and ETH fluctuations, there is a positive correlation between the MREI index and ETH prices in January 2023, indicating that the Crypto market rally has a positive impact on the Metaverse segment.Link to chart visit: https://www.metacat.world/analytics#MREI

Part 2: Metaverse Big Events

1. Otherside

1.1. Yuga Labs Releases Game Called Dookey DashOn January 12, Yuga Labs, creators of the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT series, released a game called Dookey Dash on Twitter. The game is free to play and non-BAYC holders can access it. The campaign rewards players based on their final score on the leaderboard by Feb. 8, 2023. However, users will still need a Sewer Pass to access the game.

1.2. Yuga Labs says in new court filing that it did not register copyright on Bored Ape imagesOn January 27, beincrypto reported that newly disclosed court documents show that Yuga Labs, the parent company of Bored Ape Bored Yacht Club (BAYC), did not register any copyrights for the images in the series, which means the company does not own the rights to the images in Bored Ape BAYC.Yuga Labs previously filed a lawsuit against NFT artist Ryder Ripps for the use of Bored Ape images in the RR/BAYC NFT series, but only for alleged false advertising, trademark infringement and domain name grabbing, not for copyright disputes.

2. Voxels

2.1. Digital Francisco Carolinum Museum Presents Online Solo ExhibitionOn January 7, the Digital Francisco Carolinum Museum held an online solo exhibition Open Form-Variation through Code & Participation, co-curated by Markus Reindl, OO Culture, Abraham Ananda, and Voxels. Digital Francisco Carolinum is a virtual gallery on Voxels created by the art museum Francisco Carolinum Linz in Austria to exhibit digital artworks from its collection and to conduct interesting artistic experiments.

2.2. Voxels Hosts SKY PARTY Ball Party on ChronosIslandOn January 29th, Voxels official Twitter announced the SKY PARTY dance party at ChronosIsland Island. The event was hosted by Voxels core member bitpixi, with PurpLeTariat as the DJ.

3. Decentraland

3.2. The First Metaverse Architecture and Design Biennial Embassy OpeningOn January 6, the 1st Metaverse Architecture and Design Biennial Embassy opened in Decentraland. The Metaverse Architecture and Design Biennale is an open competition for architecture across the metaverse, with the final in the form of the Decentraland Architecture Festival, including events, performances, lectures and public lectures. It will feature a huge “architectural area” built by dozens of architects, all of whom are selected and well-known.

3.3. On January 11, Decentraland will hold its first technical AMA meeting of 2023, with the theme of Catalysts and Decentralized Services.

**3.4. The AO Metaverse returns for the 2023 Australian Open (AO23)**On January 16, Decentraland officials announced that tennis fans around the world can attend the AO23 virtually — players can enter the main stadium, Rod Laver Arena, to explore and experience exclusive live streams from the AO23, including press conferences and highlights, treasure hunts and wearable airdrops. The AO Metaverse is an Australian Tennis Association initiative dedicated to the world’s most accessible and inclusive sports and entertainment event.

3.5. Decentraland’s Film Club 2023 competition opens its third editionOn January 12, Decentraland officials announced the opening of the third edition of Decentraland’s Film Club 2023 contest, this time with the Decentraland Foundation and HTC offering prizes including the Vive Flow VR headset + MANA for the The best video. Participants will be asked to create a video of up to 30 seconds showing a video they made, demonstrating their love for Decentraland, and post it on Twitter with the hashtag #DCLFilmClub by February 8, 2023 at 7 a.m. UTC. The contest officially begins on January 12, 2023.

3.6. Decentraland Hackathon hosted by Metaverse ArchitectsThe Decentraland Hackathon was hosted by Metaverse Architects from January 16–19. Participants met with the world’s leading experts in Metaverse technologies working with and for Decentraland to solve problems and develop on the open source decentralized protocols that power the Decentraland Metaverse.

3.7. Decentraland hosts 2023 Dragon City Metaverse Music CarnivalThe 2023 Dragon City Metaverse Music Carnival was held at FantasticLand in Dragon City from January 21–23, featuring a New Year’s Eve music night by Guangle Hong Kong Music, a lion dance performance by Ko Tsubaki, and a concert by SNH48. Dragon City is dedicated to showcasing traditional Chinese culture to the world and exploring more possibilities about the future development of human society.

3.8. Decentraland Launches 2023 Manifesto: The Year of the CreatorDecentraland’s goals and expectations for the new year are discussed in the official 2023 manifesto released on January 19. decentraland says it will unleash the creativity of content creators, make Decentraland more interesting, and improve the performance of the platform so that users can enjoy a smooth and immersive experience. In addition, Decentraland also gave an outlook on the creator roadmap, DAO, and major event-related content in the manifesto.

4. The Sandbox

4.1. The Sandbox Announces Entertainment, Social and Concert Features Coming to Game Maker in Next ReleaseOn January 6, The Sandbox announced that major upgrades to Game Maker in version 0.8 include new multiplayer features, new lighting and visual effects capabilities, video and audio streaming, and social hub device and wearable support. the Sandbox says these new features will open up a wide range of possibilities for creators and players.

4.2. SMCU PALACE Opens in The SandboxOn January 10, “SMCU PALACE” will be showcased in The Sandbox as part of KWANGYA@The Sandbox, a brand with an extraordinary experience that allows players to fully enjoy K-culture without boundaries between reality and the virtual. Fans will be able to enjoy SM’s music and artists in a whole new form by visiting the Artist Zone, earning badges by solving puzzles, helping SSAM BEAR find the sector windows, and visiting the KWANGYA store.

4.3. Regal Hotels Group Launches The Sandbox’s First Green City with a New ExperienceRegal Hotels Group launches The Sandbox’s first Green City with a new experience! In collaboration with pioneering strategic partners including Hang Seng Bank, UOB, City Super Group and The Mills, the first phase of MetaGreen consists of a series of eco-friendly amenities, including a green hotel, shopping mall, art park and green open space for performances.Between January 12 and February 28, 2023, players can experience different green-themed games and learn more about green lifestyles. After completing all of MetaGreen’s missions, players will also have the opportunity to play games and earn SAND from a total of 50,000 SAND reward pools.

4.4. The Sandbox Launches Lunar New Year CampaignTo celebrate the Chinese Lunar Year of the Rabbit, The Sandbox users will be able to enjoy a series of new experiences developed by partners and studios in Hong Kong, Taiwan and China. This year’s Lunar New Year event extends from January 18th to February 28th and features a 200,000 SAND prize pool, souvenirs, in-game NFT prizes and a virtual “Chinese Dragon” mystery box with limited PFPs and premium lands.

4.5. The Sandbox Partners with mm2 Group to Create Content-Themed Worlds in the MetaverseOn January 17, The Sandbox announced a new partnership with Metaviva, a Singaporean Web3 company and subsidiary of media and entertainment company mm2 Entertainment (“mm2”), to build virtual playgrounds around mm2’s IP in The Sandbox game metaverse. virtual playgrounds in The Sandbox game universe, which includes expansions of real-world content such as movies, TV shows, sports and music. Players will be able to access virtual movie sets, locked content, play games and interact with other fans in the metaverse.

4.6. The Sandbox Organizes Folklore VoxEdit ContestThe Sandbox is organizing a Folklore VoxEdit contest on January 23 to showcase mythical creatures from different countries. Participants were asked to create animated GIFs, post them on Twitter @VoxEdit and @TheSandboxGame, and add the hashtag #VoxEditWeekly. The contest closes for submissions on February 5, and the winners will be announced on February 25. First place will receive 6,000 SAND, second place 3,500 SAND, third place 2,000 SAND, and fourth through tenth place 500 SAND each.

4.7. NFT Biennial and The Sandbox Partner for Biennial VoxEdit ContestOn January 26, The Sandbox announced a partnership with the NFT Biennial, a first-of-its-kind event that seeks to spotlight the potential of NFT as a full-fledged art form, to host the VoxEdit competition. The theme of the contest is “Cyber Mythology: Goddesses in the Post-Human Age,” and participants will be asked to tweet a GIF of their assets, mentioning @VoxEdit and @TheSandboxGame as well as @sandboxturkey and @nftbiennial. Make sure to include the #VoxEditContest hashtag in the tweet. Submissions are due January 25 through February 5 at 11:59 p.m. The top 10 artists will be invited to the opening of the X Media Gallery NFT Biennial.

5. Others

5.1. Animoca Brands announces that users can participate in the NFT project Mocaverse by registering as Mocalist membersOn January 4, Animoca Brands announced the full eligibility criteria and Mocalist registration campaign for its NFT program, Mocaverse, according to an official announcement. AOmetaverse Officially Announces Metaverse Gallery Pioneer Oncyber Enters AO ArtBall 23On January 13, AOmetaverse and Oncyber are launching the ArtBalls mint, a cross between sports and innovation and a membership that enables fans to engage with tennis both on and off the court. The program began last year with the AO22 series, and a number of new AO23 NFTs have been added for the Australian Open on January 16, 2023. 6776 NFTs in the ’22 series and 9230 NFTs in the ’23 series are currently available.

5.7. Metaverse Project Party Mona Completely Enhances and Optimizes BrandOn January 17, Mona announced a brand identity upgrade and enhanced website and social features. The new brand identity not only has an identity in line with art and artists, but also sees cultural institutions (such as museums and galleries) as a good reference point, injecting a touch of rebellion. On the website side, it introduces creator-centric features, scalable multiplayer games, avatars, token portals, and more. Socially, Mona officials say they will find ways to be more social in the world and beyond.

5.8. Highstreet, the metaverse project of Binance, is up over 200%, and CZ’s “VR metaverse” may take over from AI as the next market hotspotOn January 30, Binance officially released CZ’s latest AMA content summary, CZ said that if Binance builds a metaverse, it will be supported by BNB. At this stage, CZ prefers to invest in other virtual reality or metaverse games, and Mayur Kamat, head of product at Binance, confirmed that more “Binance-backed metaverse” may be brought this year.

5.9. Yuga Labs co-founder Wylie Aronow resignsYuga Labs co-founder Wylie Aronow (also known as Gordon Goner) has left the NFT studio, citing congestive heart failure. In a Twitter announcement, while Aronow has decided to leave NFT Studios to focus on his health, he notes that he will remain a strategic advisor and board member.
