I have an aspirational goal of onboarding 1K new people into web3/#NFTs in 2022. Here is my first step. Enjoy!

You’ve probably already heard someone you know mention NFTs. NFT stands for Non-Fungible token which represents a unit of data on the blockchain. This token (or unit of data) is your proof of ownership. Think of this as your 'digital title'.

Recently, these tokens have also come w/utility in the form of digital art (see PFP). I anticipate we will see more use cases in music, IRL events, and even apparel soon! Frens @NaithanJones (@join_royal) and @allthingsmarco (@droppartyyy) are building this today.

Now blockchain - a blockchain is a digital public ledger controlled by several networks and owned by none. Think of this as a system for recording information in a way that makes this info immutable. Essentially, anyone can see everything on this ledger (including your NFTs).

Next, your wallet. This also lives on the blockchain & your NFTs are stored here. In fact, you can have many wallets, each on their individual blockchain. What's this mean? Yes, I can see what you have you in your wallet, and you can see what's in mine. Public ledger remember.

But wait, that public ownership record is actually what makes the NFTs so powerful. This NFT proves who actually owns this 1/1 token. In fact, big companies like @Twitter are building tools to make verifying ownership even more mainstream (like a Twitter verified mark).

In today's world owning a unique digital piece of art might seem strange, but think quickly about all the possibilities of digital art. Video games tend to be the easiest thing for new folks to conceptualize. Start there.

As we continue the shift to digital goods and services, it's not farfetched to imagine digital ownership being as significant as physical. If/when this happens we have officially entered the #metaverse (polarizing topic for most, but I don't think of this as ready player 1).

TL;DR NFTs move digital ownership out of the walled gardens and into public spaces. Time to blast off!
