Life and work

António Feliciano de Castilho (1800/1875). Born in Lisbon, Castilho is one of the prominent names of our first romantic generation, even though he represents the permanence of a robust Arcadian formation combined with the superficial learning of some principles and practices of the new aesthetics.

Blind since the age of 6, following measles, he managed, thanks to the devoted help of his brother Augusto (later parish priest), to graduate in Coimbra, in canons, revealing from an early age poetic dispositions that aroused the admiration of family and renowned people public men.
