Brain - Chained

Once I faced your masks and asked

where is the soul when it stands no chance?

You spat a frenzied rant from the strings in your back

an empty attack

by a brain chained to beating perceptions of black

a marionette claiming to know what I meant

deploying fresh lies to curb every hard effort spent

to detach from the shape-shifting fabric of fear

that hides in the hours that summon us here

but I’ve witnessed you cower to forces unseen

You swallowed a laugh, said I lived in a dream.
