10 Wayback Machine Alternative: How to Restore a Website

Introducing a compilation of services for content recovery from expired domains or your own website. Both paid and free methods will be available.

In the realm of recovering content from expired domains, there are few paid resources. Some have specific limitations and caps, but most offer a wide range of capabilities for data restoration.

Paid Methods for Website Recovery Allow me to present a list of top-notch paid services that enable content recovery from expired domains. Afterwards, let's take a look at the best Webarchive 2024 Alternatives.

Rush Analytics

Rush Analytics - A great service tailored for SEO professionals, offering a wide array of services including forecasting model development, optimization, segmentation, and more.

  • Access through your dashboard: Tools -> PBN Tools -> Recovery from Webarchive.

  • This tool lets you download an entire website from the Web Archive in HTML format for any given date.

  • It's important to note: If the volume of files downloaded from the Web Archive exceeds 500 MB, executing the task becomes impossible.

  • All images, styles, and scripts will be saved (excluding those loaded from other resources).

  • You can select dates for each individual page with a preview option.

Archivarix

Archivarix - Currently the best service for content recovery. It provides flexible restoration settings.

  • A good free limit allows for site recovery comprising 200 files.

  • Reasonable rates, for example, an additional $0.89 for 89 files. Payment options include MIR card, Yoomoney, Paypal, Webmoney, and Bitcoin.

  • Minimum recharge is $10 (if your site is small and you need to pay $1 but pay $10 - these funds won't disappear but will be transferred to your account in the dashboard for future use).

  • Capability for parsing structured data with subsequent upload to WordPress (BETA).

  • Removing various types of links, trackers, and iframes.

  • Code and image optimization.

Wayback Machine Downloader

Wayback Machine Downloader - Archive data recovery service.

  • Reasonable pricing for recovering large sites, e.g., $19 for up to 20,000 files.

  • Option to integrate files into WordPress for $60.

  • Subscription for $79 allowing free site downloads and restoration for a month, plus discounts for transferring to WordPress.

  • Supports 8 languages.

  • In addition to site recovery, offers services for finding expiring domains and restoring unique articles.

Drawbacks:

  • Demo access is limited to 4 pages and requires local deployment, which might be inconvenient.

Free Method: Scripts from GitHub

Another option is to use a library (web archive downloader GitHub).

I use a functional script from open sources to extract a site from Webarchive, simply named - Wayback Machine Downloader (github)

  • You need to install Ruby on your system (version equal to or higher than 1.9.2) if you haven't already.

  • Then execute the command in the command prompt (cmd in the Windows start menu): "gem install wayback_machine_downloader".

  • Command to start downloading from the latest restoration point: "wayback_machine_downloader http://example.com"

  • To retrieve files from a specific period: "wayback_machine_downloader http://example.com --from 20120716231334" (numbers from the Wayback Machine URL).

  • Similarly, until a specific date: "wayback_machine_downloader http://example.com --to 20140916231334".

The date functionality may not work perfectly.

Webarchive Alternatives 2024

  • Archive.today - a platform for archiving, serving as an excellent Wayback Machine alternative. Its key advantage is the ability to archive sites using Visual Basic and JavaScript. Users can access a site only if its size doesn't exceed 50 MB.

  • Webcitation - differs from Wayback Machine by offering specific screenshots of cited links essential for writers, editors, and publishers. Archives the quoted web page, HTML, and all associated images and documents. Functionality better suited to the needs of writers and editors. Unwieldy interface.

  • Time Travel - another free and user-friendly WayBack Machine alternative allowing you to revisit the past and view snapshots of a site at a specific moment.

  • Visualping - a website to track changes on various sites, including updates on social media and password-protected pages, but it doesn't provide a simple way to go back in time.

  • CacheView - archives pages from three sources: Coral, Wayback Machine, and Google Cache. Here, you can access Google's cache, making this service quite attractive.

  • Yubnub - a tool to search basic information about changes on a page. It presents a good alternative with a charming snail.
