Summary

Atem is a decentralized content creation protocol, we aim at helping creators tokenize their content and build web3 native communities via NFTs. Utilizing Atem Protocol, we built web3 community social platform AtemChat, and web3 review sharing platform AtemReview to help creators build connections with their communities, and create exclusive token-gated experience.

Background

What is Web3?

Web3 is the decentralized web where blockchain technology is the foundation protocol such that users are in control of their data and identity. It is also known as the "aligned web". By allowing users to own their data, the network effect no longer belongs to platforms, but rather, is returned to users. Under the context of web3, developers can focus on improving user experience and getting access to users with the help of an open network rather than acquiring users first, users can enjoy the services from multiple developers rather than being controlled by a single platform.

What is decentralized creator economy?

Previously, the creator economy is mainly controlled by the platform, where content and connection of creators are stored in a centralized platform. The platform can decide what users can see, and how they take the profit from creators. By storing content and connection on a decentralized protocol, creators can create direct connections with their fans, and the platform has switched from the controller to the service provider. Based on this paradigm shift, a decentralized creator economy can be built, where creators can focus on creating content directly for their fans, and monetize their content and influence without platforms. Atem Network is the first decentralized content creation protocol that puts creator rights and composability first.

Why NFT?

Non-fungible token (NFT) refers to “unique cryptographic tokens that exist on a blockchain and cannot be replicated”.

We believe NFT is a perfect way to prove the intellectual property for content due to its composability and non-fungible nature. Creators can easily claim their right to certain content by minting the content into NFTs, and can monetize their content by allowing fans to collect content NFTs. Creators can also launch creator membership NFTs to build their web3 native communities, fans can build connections directly with creators via on-chain protocol without the platform, and different platforms can build web3 native interaction around such connections, which can unlock the full potential of web3 native communities.

Problems with the current content creator ecosystem

Today most content and relationships are stored in a centralized platform, where creators can hardly interact with their fans without the platform, the platform can decide how they take the profit. NFT is a good tool to help creators monetize their content and influence, however, most creators are not artists, and it’s easier for them to create engaging content than create art pieces. Also, content creators desire strong community engagement with their fans; from identity verification, and smart contract interaction to community-centered activities. The current web2 infrastructure cannot natively support all these purposes, and in the end, it is not efficiently capable of forming web3 native communities.

Atem Solution

To solve these problems for creators, Atem is building a decentralized content creation protocol to help creators tokenize their content. On top of it, a web3 community social platform is built, AtemChat, where creators engage with their fans based on the same membership NFTs they hold. Even more, a web3 review sharing platform, AtemReview, where users can discover and share their reviews on web3 and build web3 native connections with creators via content NFTs and creator NFTs. In the future, we will explore more web3 native apps built on the connection between creators and fans, which are stored on decentralized protocols.

Atem is a decentralized content creation protocol. We aim at helping creators tokenize their content and build web3 native communities. The following is a summary of the Atem protocol’s main function.

• Decentralized storage: Content generated on Atem Protocol will be decentralized stored on ARWeave, where creators can own their content without the platform, and the content can be shared and distributed permissionlessly in web3, which will help creators to reach out to their true fans.
• Content Ownership: For content ownership, we have designed several functions for creators to tokenize their content.
  • Credential SBT: Creators can mint their content as SBT, with the help of SBT, creators can claim the original writer of certain content, and build their on-chain credentials.
  • Content NFT: For all content, creators can launch corresponding NFTs for users to collect and trade. Creators can decide the amount of NFTs and initial price, this can help creators tokenize their content, and build a creator-centered creator economy without the platform.
  • Creator NFT: Creator can also launch their own NFT as a method to connect and manage their communities, fans can join the membership club of creators by claiming creator membership NFTs, and a web3 native community can be built upon creator NFTs.
• On-chain Index: All content can be linked with a smart contract, and the link will be stored on-chain. Under the approval of users, the content can be deployed and shared permissionlessly in web3, and can be easily classified with the help of classification metadata stored on-chain.

AtemReview - Web3 Review Sharing Platform

Utilizing Atem Protocol, we are building a web3 review sharing platform, where creators can share their web3 native graphical notes, and build connections with their fans by allowing users to collect content NFTs and creator NFTs. Here are some key features of AtemReview.

• Web3 Native Identity Verification: With on-chain data verification, we can identify the identity of review creators( holder, ex-holder, non-holder, trader etc.) and categorize the review correspondingly.
• Token-gated Reviews: Creators can create token-gated content to share their ideas with holders, it's only visible and can be interacted with holders. For example, creators can create reviews that are only visible to fans who collected their NFTs, users can also create exclusive content within their communities.
• Rich Content: We allow creators to post their reviews via pictures and medium-length words. Creators can share the reviews and monetize via content NFTs and form their communities via creator membership NFTs.
• Linked Reviews: Utilizing the on-chain index of content creation protocol, we can easily classify the classification of different reviews which can be shared among communities.

AtemChat - Web3 Community Social Platform

Utilizing Atem Protocol, we built a web3 community social platform AtemChat, creators can easily connect and interact with their fans in AtemChat via membership NFTs they generated on Atem Protocol. Creators can meet and discuss with their followers based on the tokenized relationship and govern the communities together. By different levels of membership NFTs, creators can grant different benefits to users and rewards, especially their loyal users. Here are some key features of AtemChat.

• Token-gated communities: AtemChat allows users to automatically join communities based on NFTs they own. Now Atem supports all NFTs on Ethereum.
• P2P NFT Transaction: Users can view NFT collections of other users, and bid their NFTs via AtemChat, the contract-integrated message will be sent to the private chat box. Users can complete on-chain transactions within AtemChat.

We believe in the future, more products can be built upon decentralized content creation protocol, and we welcome more developers to help build this creator ecosystem.

Credentials based on NFT Network

In Atem, content NFTs and creator NFTs can be issued by creators to users. Based on certain amounts and types of NFTs collected by their fans, we can identify different levels of fans and their connection with creators. We believe a such relationship can unlock more potential for web3 native interaction, and special roles in the communities (moderator, contributor) can be rewarded based on such interaction. In this way, creators can unlock the full potential of web3 community identities by allowing fans to carry their roles with them. This incentivizes users to contribute to the community and join the governance. Users will also be able to vote for and co-decide what they would like to happen in the communities.

User portrait layer based on on-chain data

The other use cases will be allowed to paint a user portrait layer for every address. Based on on-chain data, anyone can paint a user portrait layer by labeling every address based on their previous collections and categorizing the addresses. The output will be the portrait for every address and the connection index among addresses.

The first utility will be a recommendation system and credit based on the data, we believe that the user portrait layer can go far beyond what we currently have available to us. When compared with Web2, data is stored in different apps and every time a new app is launched, it has to attract users and gain data starting from zero. We believe all data on web3 will be public, and therefore, a unified user portrait layer will be essential to all Dapp developers and users can also benefit from this layer by getting incentives offered by Dapp developers, including specific airdrops etc.

Roadmap

2022 Q1

We launched alpha version of AtemChat and first edition of Atem NFT, NFT holders can get access to our alpha version. 5000 Atem NFT is sold out within 2 hours, and have 3,500 unique holders.

2022 Q2

We launched beta version of AtemChat, supporting token-gated communities and P2P NFT transactions. AtemChat reached over 10,000 users, and created over 3,000 NFT groups.

2022 Q3

We update our vision into “decentralized content creation protocol”, to help creators tokenize their content and build web3 native communities via NFTs. We bring out AtemChat V2.0, and introduce our new product AtemReview.

AtemChat V2.0 supports great amount of new features, including private chat, NFT listing and on-chain activity analysis. AtemReview will be launched by the end of September, allowing creators to publish web3 native graphical notes, and tokenize their content via content NFT. We target to reach 50,000+ users and partner with over 70 partners in the industry by the end of Q3.

2022 Q4

We will update AtemReview V2.0, allowing creators and create token-gated reviews and create a general feed for users to view all reviews published on AtemReview. We also target to bring out mobile version of AtemChat for better user experience. We target 100,000+ users, 100+ partners, 5,000 content creators and 100+content per day.

2023 Q1

We will update AtemReview V3.0, bringing in-app marketplace for users to trade content and creator NFTs. We target 500,000+ users around our ecosystem, 1,000+ content per day and 20,000+ creators.

Tokenomics

ATEM Token Introduction

Atem Network aims to build a permissionless, open, and collaborative content creation protocol to help creators tokenize their content and connect with their communities on web3. The ATEM token is an essential component as it functions as the governance token, incentivizes user participation, and serves as the primary payment token of the Atem Network ecosystem. Here are the utilities of ATEM:

• Governance: ATEM is used for voting & governance in Atem DAO. ATEM token holders have the ability to control the amount of the platform fee collected by the protocol, including NFT issuance fee, payment fee, and control funds held by the Atem Community Treasury.
• Utility Token in Atem Ecosystem: ATEM is used to be the utility token in Atem Ecosystem, including payment token for creator and content NFTs, reduce transaction fee in AtemChat and etc. In the future, more ecosystem dapps will leverage ATEM token to become the fundamental utility token.
• Burn tokens in Social Incentives System: ATEM is used as burn token in social incentives system. To grow the protocol and expand user base, we introduce social incentives system to encourage users interact with our protocol. For reward upgrade and unlock, ATEM token will be burned in the incentives system.

Technical Details

Storage Solution

Atem leverages ARWeave+IPFS as decentralized storage solution to provide best user experience with most efficient cost. Compared with other decentralized storage solutions like IPFS or FileCoin, ARWeave stores the data on-chain and provides persistence and permanent storage while also support fast retrieval. Although ARWeave provides fast retrieval and won’t suffer from data distortion, the expense to store data is generally much higher. This will become a challenge when it comes to rich content, such as AtemReview. To guarantee healthy network effect under the premise of decentralization, we introduce ARWeave+IPFS as decentralized storage solution. All text content generated on Atem will be stored in ARWeave, and rich content such as pictures, gifs will be stored in IPFS.

Below is a comparison between widely used decentralized storage solutions.

Based on the comparison, it is clear that the solution Atem adopts, which combines ARWeave + IPFS, can leverage the high speed of ARWeave to store Metadata and text data, and low cost of IPFS to store images and video streams.

The AtemView on-chain data consists of three parts:

1. AtemView Content Data, on the ARWeave chain, includes all the context-related data, formed in markdown and stored as plainText. The ‘images_URLs’ array field points to the Images/Video Data on the IPFS.
2. Images/Video Stream Data, in the IPFS, represents the images or video data.

Smart Contract Solution

• NFT Standard:
  • We apply ERC-1155 as NFT standard to create content and creator NFT. Compared with ERC-721, ERC-1155 is more suitable for creator and content NFT, because for every content or creator, while creators hope to create more shares so more fans can collect, the NFT they issued is usually the same.
  • Also, when people want to mint or trade for more than one token, ERC-1155 has a significant advantage in saving gas fees. Which can be extremely high when block space is expensive and crowded.
• NFT Creation: While every collection of content NFT is unique, all content NFTs on Atem will be minted under one parent contract, such a solution will have the following advantages.
  • Less cost for creators to set up a new collection, no need to pay for the contract deployment fee at the initialization.
  • Easier to support Lazy-Mint, creators don’t have to pay for their content NFT setup, NFTs will only be created when buyers show their interest and decide to mint the NFT, and there’s no additional cost for buyers, only need to pay an average gas fee.
  • All content NFTs will be displayed in one collection in OpenSea or other NFT marketplaces, easier for collectors to trade on the secondary market.

Web3 Native Features

Utilizing Atem Protocol and web3 technology, a great amount of web3 native products can be built, here are some of the features we are building.

Web3 Identity Verification:

Atem keeps track of the latest state info for every address from different chains like Ethereum, Solana and etc. It has the ability to identify the status of every address, including whether the address are eligible to join certain token-gated groups, and the transaction history of certain address (whales, blue-chip holders, previous holders and etc.).

Token-gated Reviews:

With the help of identity verification, we allow creators to create token-gated reviews which is only visible to token holders. When users are viewing token-gated reviews, the review is encrypted by default, and users need to connect wallet to prove their identity, and we start from verifying NFT holder status. The content can only be revealed when our server proves the identity of the address via on-chain data verification, and other address won’t be able to see the token-gated reviews.

Dynamic NFT display Support:

Unlike other content creation platform, which only stores pictures or static NFT metadata, Atem supports dynamically content NFT in two ways: 1. In AtemReview, we allow creators to refresh the NFT metadata in notes they shared by inputting new info into storage, for example, redirecting the image URLs from one content to another. This will be useful when creating notes for NFTs which are still blind-box. 2. Communicate with Atem platform to dynamically update the metadata through Oracle.

Token-gated Communities:

Utilizing Atem protocol, creators can launch their own Creator NFT to form creator communities following ERC-1155 via Atem protocol. Users can join the creator community by purchasing the Creator NFT, and directly interact with creators in token-gated communities.
