The Scroll GitHub repository received over 1,000 comments over the weekend, with the majority coming from Optimistic’s airdrop hunters, which may be a result of recent Celestia, Starknet airdrops rewarding code contributors. A Scroll researcher named Pseudo said: "Please do not submit GitHub issues just for the purpose of liquidity mining. The Scroll core team is already thin enough. Please don't make our lives more difficult." Pseudo said: " Airdrop hunters are also part of the crypto community, but it’s important that people contribute based on their own strengths rather than following trends.”
There are some ways projects can prevent spam on GitHub. Pseudo has pushed for the introduction of activity limits in the Scroll repository, although it has not yet been implemented. While it's easy to block newly created accounts, the problem becomes trickier when airdrop hunters have GitHub accounts that have been in use for a while and have posted multiple comments, as it can be difficult to distinguish them from genuine contributors.
