An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.6 occurred in Ninglang County, Lijiang City, Yunnan Province

Kunming, April 16 (Xinhua) according to the official measurement of China Seismological Network, a magnitude 4.6 earthquake occurred in Ninglang County, Lijiang City, Yunnan Province at 8:32 on April 16, with a focal depth of 9 kilometers and an epicenter at 27.78 degrees north latitude and 100.62 degrees east longitude.

The epicenter of the earthquake was 60 kilometers away from Ninglang Yi Autonomous County, 67 kilometers away from Muli Tibetan Autonomous County in Sichuan, 87 kilometers away from Shangri La, 96 kilometers away from Yanyuan County in Sichuan, 108 kilometers away from the ancient city of Lijiang, 90 kilometers away from Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and 369 kilometers away from Kunming. The average altitude within 5 kilometers of the epicenter is about 2880 meters.

According to the quick report catalogue of China Seismological Station, 62 earthquakes of magnitude 3 or above have occurred within 200 kilometers around the epicenter in recent five years, and the largest earthquake is the magnitude 5.5 earthquake in Ninglang County on January 2, 2022 (3 kilometers from the epicenter).

Ninglang Yi Autonomous County is subordinate to Lijiang City, Yunnan Province, at the border with Sichuan Province. It is located in the middle of Hengduan Mountains in Northwest Yunnan, with crisscross gullies and many tourist attractions such as Lugu Lake. Ninglang has a humid climate, obvious vertical differences and rich mineral resources. Ninglang Yi Autonomous County covers an area of 6025 square kilometers and governs 1 town and 14 townships.
