78 people burn Fitbit recall refund smart meter in the United States
April 29th, 2022

Fitbit announced today that it is working with the consumer product safety commission to voluntarily recall its ionic smart watch. The company said it had received more than 100 reports of overheating of the watch’s lithium-ion battery and 78 reports of customer burns.

“Fitbonit has always been a top priority for our customers in a voluntary recall of fitbonit watches,” fitbonit said. It continued that the reported cases accounted for less than 0.01 per cent of the products sold. About 1 million ionic smart watches are sold in the United States, and another 693000 are sold internationally.

If you have an ionic smart watch, Fitbit recommends that you stop using it immediately. The company said it would provide prepaid packaging for returns and would issue a refund of $299. It said it would also offer a 40% discount code for specific Fitbit devices. You can call 888-925-1764 or visit Fitbit’s online refund center.

The owner will receive a refund of $299 and a 40% discount code for the purchase of a new Fitbit.

According to the report of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Fitbit has received 115 reports on ionic battery overheating in the United States and 59 reports abroad. Even more disturbing is that the company received 78 burn reports in the United States and 40 reports internationally. Among the reported burns, Fitbit received two reports of third degree burns and four reports of second degree burns.

Ionic, launched in 2017, is Fitbit’s first real attempt at smart watches after its acquisition of pebble. It is one of the first wearable devices to introduce blood oxygen saturation sensor, but due to its poor design and limited intelligent functions, the watch is disappointing in sales. Ironically, critics praised ionic’s one week battery life as one of its best features. Fitbit discontinued ionic in 2020.
