Ideamarket: Or how the news became an investment and freed us all

You wake up to your phone's ding, and blearily-eyed you check it seeing a news article that reads "Famous comedian under fire for racist comments". You sigh, putting your phone back into your pocket, but remember the comedian with compromised integrity.

You get ready and begin your commute to work, scrolling through your social media feed awash with posts about how a recent popular uprising is filled with violent extremists, causing the death of numerous innocents.

Upon arriving at your place of employment, you are greeted by co-workers, eager to regale you with the abundance of news that you mercifully missed. Discussing the latest shooting, political treason committed by the opposing party, and a celebrity that was shockingly found out to be a murderer - unbeknownst to their stalwart supporters.

"Wow" you think, "this world is filled with hatred, death, and despair. How could anyone consider bringing a new life into this world?" as you continue your day, barraged by an ongoing stream of 'news' that only seeks to inform you that the world will come to an end in 7 years due to climate change.

This is not normal. An older person, one born before the time of social media, might remember a time when fear & apprehension was not a constant partner. They can remember a time when, yes, there was hyperbole and lies on the television when tuned into the nightly news, but there was always the option to tune it out. This older individual might even seek a return to those 'better' times, times when you were not constantly exposed to the mess of post-apocalyptic foreplay that is disingenuously termed 'news'.

But how is this a solution? Should not the answer be something better? Something true? An answer that breaks any mal-formed narrative that seeks to profit from instilling terror in a populace?

through its platform.

Through Ideamarket, we, the people are able to curate the news in 3 main ways:

  • Find worthwhile articles, tweets, videos, & accounts and list them on Ideamarket
  • Invest in that information or accounts that you deem accurate and interesting, increasing their value
  • Sell your investment in those listings once you believe the appropriate valuation has been reached

With the above mechanisms available to all, people become the artibiters of truth, rather than special interests.

Additionally, should your listings become invested in (either by others, or yourself), you can claim interest ($$) that is generated on your listings, or even interest generated for a listed account of yours.

You can read more about Ideamarket philosophy and functionality on their website.
