The Frahm Genesis Drop

When Frames meet Generative Art

The Frahm Genesis Drop is the first Frahm NFT Drop. It consists of a limited supply of unique frame NFTs based on generative art. In other words, digital frames tokenized as their own NFTs. Each will be a unique artwork consisting of various layers, attributes, and rarities.

At Frahm, our first NFT Drop is special to us. We want to establish frame NFTs as unique pieces of art. Instead of a manually curated process, all Genesis Drop NFTs will be the output of our own generative art algorithm. An autonomous system we have been training for several months.

Much more than Frames

Holders of Frahm Genesis Drop frame NFTs are early stakeholders of Frahm and will enjoy additional benefits within the Frahm community. Genesis Drop NFTs are access tokens to their own Frahm Galleries, where they will be able to showcase their NFTs in a unique way. They are tickets for a surprise to be revealed. In addition, holders are eligible for future Frahm drops and participation in exclusive community events.

Each Genesis Drop frame NFT will be available in high-resolution and different file types. 2D images for conventional display and 3D models for virtual reality experiences. The Genesis Drop will utilize the ERC-721 token standard on the public Ethereum Blockchain to manage its digital property rights. We will utilize the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) to store all generated file types.

Meet the Generative Artist behind Frahm

Frahm is proud to have its own established artist on the team. Lucas Swick is responsible for the art creation process and tooling behind each Frahm frame. All of our frames are built from scratch and run on thousands of lines of code. Code that makes art.

Lucas is a generative artist writing algorithms that describe natural phenomena. He studies patterns and forms from the natural world and writes mathematical equations that recreate them. Each equation accepts a multitude of parameters, and by choosing random parameters, his programs create many variations, ranging from highly abstract versions to impressively chaotic manifestations of the original idea.

Re-imagining Frames in the Metaverse

Frames are intrinsic to the traditional art world, but not in the metaverse, yet. A frame is more than the material it is constructed with. It’s more than the wood, the glass, the miters, the ornaments, and the craftsmanship that goes into making the frame. A frame is a way to elevate art. It says, “I care enough about this piece to show it at its best.” It says, “this piece is important to me.”

Throughout history, innovation and experimentation in frames continued. Like the art they contain, frames reveal the influences of the time. A frame maker works with the capabilities at hand. NFTs, the metaverse, and computer technology set a new context to interpret this craft.

We collaborated with a traditional frame maker in understanding every facet behind the frame creation process. The most important tool in our frame creation process is the Frahm SDK. This Software Development Kit, which Lucas developed, gives us a framework with powerful capabilities to create digital frames. Similar to machinery in the workshop of a traditional frame maker, the Frahm SDK is our primary tool consisting of many functions and various layers.

Creating the Frahm Genesis Drop

In the Frahm Genesis Drop, all frame NFTs are the output of a generative art algorithm. An autonomous system, carefully developed over many months, making use of the capabilities within the Frahm SDK. In other words, the actual frame maker of the Genesis Drop is a program.

When comparing the creation process, there are many similarities between our digital frame NFTs and physical frames, including choosing aspect ratios, frame type, material, thickness, color, texture, ornaments, passepartouts, etc. This process harmonizes all those elements into one final holistic piece of art.

For traditional frame makers, these steps are done at the hands of the frame maker—a master of his work. For us, these steps are programmed and iteratively fine-tuned. Our frames run on computer code carefully assembled over months. In the end, an algorithm we trained will generate a set of frames. We only set an aesthetic direction based on the inputs and rules we encode into the algorithm.

This is what we define as craftsmanship for the digital frame, manifested and verifiable as NFT tokens on the Blockchain. Provenance matters to us, and NFTs give digital art creators, such as ourselves, the power to create something lasting.
