I confess, it took me a whole year of watching Lucas from Defiverso on YouTube before I mustered the courage. An entire YEAR! Between binge-watching videos about "how blockchain will change the world" and "opportunities in DeFi," my 46-year-old mom brain kept bouncing between "this totally makes sense!" and "who comes up with these token names, seriously?"
But then, I finally took the leap and signed up for the Defiverso course. DefiMom was ready to conquer the crypto world (or at least try not to trip over along the way)!
Right in the first module, I had a reality check: a deep dive into the evolution of money. Who would’ve thought those crumpled bills in my wallet had such a complex history? And that the money we know might soon transform into... well, something entirely digital? That’s when it hit me: crypto isn’t just the future – it’s the present, speeding up like a rocket.
As I was processing all of that, the alien words started popping up – "staking," "smart contracts," "airdrops." I don’t know who invented this vocabulary, but it felt like I was learning magic instead of finance.
Then came the practical part. The mission? Buy my first Ether on Binance and transfer it to Metamask. A task that sounded simple but quickly revealed its true complexity.
First, I tried to be a pro on Binance, only to find out it wasn’t so straightforward. After jumping through a series of hoops like identity verifications (selfies, ID uploads, and at one point, I thought they might ask for my kids’ report cards), I finally managed to make the purchase. But then the Ether decided to test my patience. It took forever to show up in my assets, and for a moment, I thought it might have gone straight to Mars. I refreshed the page about 50 times – and yes, I may have prayed to the blockchain gods for good measure.
When the Ether finally appeared, the next step was transferring it to Metamask. That moment of copying and pasting the wallet address was nerve-wracking. What if I messed up a single character and sent my funds into the digital void? I hit "send" with my heart pounding, and as usual, I waited.
And then, there it was on Metamask! When the balance finally appeared, I screamed (literally). It was a mix of relief, joy, and that feeling of having just conquered a massive challenge. It was like passing an entrance exam, mastering sourdough bread, and winning a game of Tetris all at once.
At that moment, I knew: DefiMom was born. A 46-year-old mom braving the crypto universe with courage, coffee, and plenty of humor. A world where gas isn’t fuel, wallets aren’t made of leather, and coins don’t jingle.
If you’re thinking of stepping into the crypto world, my advice is simple: take it slow, keep a sense of humor, and enjoy the journey. Yes, it’s confusing at first, but it’s also an incredible adventure – and I can’t wait for the next chapter.
Starting in the crypto world is no small feat, but it’s been an incredible adventure filled with growth, learning, and plenty of laughs. If you enjoyed this glimpse into my journey as DefiMom, I’d love for you to be part of it!
