Blockchain gaming continues to flourish even during challenging bear market conditions. Weekly insights for September 2022 from DappRadar show that crypto gaming continues to thrive: hyper-casual mobile blockchain games brought in a staggering 1.7 million users into Web3 in a mere 7 days, while 7 out of 10 games increased their number of users in the last 30 days.
For some, this news might come as a surprise given the current market, but as CEO of the first female-centered RPG mobile game Fashion League, I am a strong believer in the prosperous future of blockchain gaming. Here's why I think we will continue to see the sector grow.
Hyper-casual mobile games
Mobile games are growing in popularity, and this demand is something many crypto gaming projects have cleverly tapped into. DappRadar highlights in the same 2022 report that 8 out of 10 of the most popular blockchain games are currently mobile-first. Given their portability, accessibility, and affordability compared to traditional console games, it makes sense that mobile games' lower barriers to entry are attracting more people into the crypto sphere.
Creating a mobile-first game was an important element for me when it came to creating Fashion League. I was keen to make a fun, easily accessible game that would help onboard more women into the Web3 space. A mobile-first game achieves these goals, enabling far more women to enter the space in a non-daunting manner.
Ownership of gaming assets
One of the main reasons why I think we will see crypto gaming continue to soar in popularity is the fundamental shift toward gamer ownership. Blockchain players gain complete control over their gaming assets, as projects are both community-owned and community-governed. This is achieved through NFTs as in-game assets, meaning owners are granted indivisible property rights that give these digital assets real-life value. Players can then decide to keep, sell or trade with other players.
This organizational structure contrasts dramatically with the traditional gaming world, where users collect in-game assets which have no value outside the confines of that specific game. Consequently, gamers fail to reap any tangible benefits of the game's popularity, only game publishers and platforms do.
Giving players significant freedom, the decentralized nature of crypto gaming empowers the very people who bring and maintain its value (gamers) while helping to rebalance the flows of money and power in the gaming sector.
Community-building
Strong communities are inherent to blockchain gaming's foundation thanks to its decentralized nature. Players have enhanced governing abilities and gameplay options, meaning such projects create powerful ecosystems that foster loyal, active communities that create opportunities for all involved.
But while community is integral to a blockchain project's success, the game itself needs to have the playability factor if it is to succeed in the long term. Otherwise, the community will simply fizzle out.
The fun factor is central to our metaverse game Fashion League. A female-focused, mobile-first blockchain game, We want our players to entertain themselves and be motivated to develop their gaming skills and collaborate with others to build a thriving community. Players get to enjoy designing and owning their fashion empires, creating clothes, accessories fashion NFTS and much more, while established brands can also get involved and showcase their digital products.
The world of crypto gaming offers powerful advantages to players hitherto unseen in the traditional gaming world. Plus building on blockchain enables endless possibilities for creating more transparent ecosystems that build equitable economies for all involved.
