Welcome 1993, Hello world wide web. It was fascinating, the born of the internet was an innovation because the www introduces us to our unmet and unarticulated needs for the next couple of decades.
The first true social media platform was launched. The first blog post was created, and things for the internet looked great Wikipedia
At the time, no one asked and cared about privacy, data, and its possession because it wasn’t an obvious question to ask. Nobody cares back then about how my contribution to the social media platforms will have any impact on others and on me. Well now we know the answer, it does and it became BIG, big enough to build an entirely new economy. If only we asked ourselves back then "How my online presence is building an economy, and why I am not favored if so if I have the power to build any kind of economy, shouldn't it mean money in my bank account” !?
Generally speaking yes it should, but for the internet holders, it was a strategic decision to not prove you wrong. So here comes one of the best strategic decisions "Let's build a verification system for our users so that we know which one of them is contributing the most [quality over quantity model]. That way platforms measured our activity and put a ‘price tag' on us. You may say, I’m ok with that, cause the most adequate incentive behind that decision would be to reward creators for publishing, liking, commenting, and sharing on those platforms right. Well yes but…
Without getting into very deep technical, security, and ethical details about why let’s assume that we now know the story and incentive behind the blue badge and that’s enough to digest.
Now the good news is that web3 unlocks big potential for creators on social platforms to be rewarded for their contributions, but It will happen only if we change the blue badge norm with a new one for example a Red badge. To create the movement toward a better, fairer internet, now this is what we want and ask for right.
There are two questions that remain though, should we change the badge color
or the platform it serves? Aren’t we bigger than the platform now?
YES, WE ARE!
