This guide covers the second step that most Kamigotchi World players take: rolling a Kami. If you want to learn the basics of Kamigotchi, please go over the Basics Guide I wrote previously.
When rolling a Kami, most players look to maximize their stats in order to have the most optimal Kami for a specific build. In this guide I will be covering Kami types, Stats and their Traits (Body, Hands etc.), to help give foresight into what to watch out for.
The image above shows the type and stats of a random Kami. Types impact the damage a Kami deals to or takes from another Kami. Violence increases the damage a Kami deals, Power increases it’s MUSU harvest rate, Harmony decreases the damage it takes (and increases recovery speed) and Health increases it’s overall HP.
Types are unchangeable - once you roll a Kami, you are stuck with it’s Body and Hand type. Since you only get 10 rerolls for each Kami, the type that you select becomes a key factor in choosing one.
Besides Kamis having typed Bodies and Hands, every tile in the Kamigotchi world has one of the 4 types. The type matchup between a Kami and the tile impacts the amount of MUSU the Kami harvests and the damage it takes.
From my testing with each type of Kami (the numerical values can be found at the bottom of this guide), I’ve found the following affinities to be true:
The image above shows how type matchups affect MUSU harvesting rates.
Efficacies apply to both typed traits, so if your Kami has differing types such as [Scrap/Eerie], it will harvest more in matching tiles (Eerie and Scrap), and less in non-matching tiles (Insect).
If your Kami is double typed (such as [Scrap/Scrap]) it will harvest drastically more in matching tiles, and drastically less in non-matching tiles. Your Kami harvests the standard amount in Normal tiles.
To showcase the math behind type affinities, the following occur for matches:
If both types match, your Kami harvests ~2x MUSU.
If one type matches and the other is Normal, your Kami harvests ~1.5x MUSU.
If one type matches and the other does not, your Kami harvests ~1.25x MUSU.
The following occur for non-matches:
If both types don’t match, your Kami harvests ~0.5x MUSU.
If one type matches and the other is Normal, your Kami harvests ~0.75x MUSU.
Type matchup is very important for maximizing your MUSU harvesting speed, which is the currency with which shop items are purchased and quests are completed. MUSU gain also contributes to the XP gained by Kamis. In the mainnet, paying attention to type matchups will impact the amount of ONYX you can gain from your Kami.
The image above shows how typed hands affect damage dealt to different body types. The buff in a type matchup is difficult to calculate precisely, but from my research, there is a +/-50% shift in damage threshold depending on the matchup. Essentially:
Eerie deals more damage to Scrap while dealing less damage to Insect
Insect deals more damage to Eerie while dealing less damage to Scrap
Scrap deals more damage to Insect while dealing less damage to Eerie
For a predator Kami, typed hands is always great for higher damage dealt in certain matchups. In high population tiles, murdering any Kami at a higher threshold is an advantage, as there are likely multiple predator Kamis on the prowl, so you can still get pick-offs against certain matchups even when there’s a lot of competition.
Karma (recoil from murdering) is not multiplied by the type matchup, so the type of the Kami’s body matters less. Of course, a Normal body would be ideal to prevent you from getting murdered after losing health from recoil.
The values and matchups presented in both figures above may change in the future.
Each Kami starts with a base of 50 HP, 10 Violence, 10 Power and 10 Harmony. These base values are then increased based on your Kami’s trait composition. This makes each Kami unique, so it’s essential to choose one in an informed manner.
When you roll a Kami, you randomize their Body, Hands, Face, Body Color and Background Color. These all change the bonus base stats your Kami gets.
I’ve noted down 112 different Kami traits from a pool of 1000 Kamis, I will be sharing the top 5 traits to look for if you’re going for a specific specialization.
Please keep in mind that there may be missing traits in my list. The comprehensive list of Kami traits, along with their provided stats is listed at the very bottom of this guide.
In the testnet, there are over 12,000 Kamis. Based on the total number of traits I’ve recorded, there are more than 4.7 million possible distinct Kamis that can be minted in Kamigotchi world. It is important to understand the range of stats a Kami can have, and understanding when you’ve gotten lucky with a Kami roll.
The stats in the table above break down the main numbers from the analysis in the next section. The main takeaway is that if your Kami has above the top 25% for any of these stats, that means that you’ve gotten fairly lucky. I will be covering which traits are best for each build in the next section, with a more refined look into the stats and a look at the distributions.
Type Distribution
In terms of the distribution of types, both Hands and Body traits have an equal distribution, where the Normal type is more common than all other types. This means that in each roll you’re 40% more likely to roll Normal type for either Body or Hands.
Specializations
There are 4 specializations in Kamigotchi: Harvester, Guardian, Enlightened and Predator. A large portion of the community pivoted to Harvester or Guardian, with Predator being used by more active players. Enlightened is often overlooked in most suggestions for Kamigotchi.
In the testnet, this is rightfully so. MUSU is very expendable and easy to spend freely, so, there is no need for a specialized regeneration build for your Kami. However, as the mainnet reaches closer, there may be a need to look at the upsides of the Enlightened specialization. I think this path could be great for an active hybrid Tank/Harvester build.
Above is a quick graphic to showcase which stats are important for which primary build. The section below includes all of the stats, in the following short form:
Violence: V
Power: P
Harmony: H
Health: HP
Slot: S (likely to be introduced in a later patch for Kami equipment)
The types are outlined as the following: Insect in green, Eerie in purple, Normal in white and Scrap in red (to reflect their in-game colors). Because Body and Hand traits are the only ones that determine the type of your Kami, the other traits are outlined in grey.
Predator (Primary Attribute of Violence)
You can see above that Guns is ranked below Crab in the Hands column. This is because Normal hands tend to deal the same amount of damage, while typed hands can have an advantage against some typed body Kamis. This can help you get some easy pick-offs compared to going for Normal hands. Since predators tend to be active and can reduce action cooldowns in their skill tree, this rule doesn’t matter as much for a predator Kami’s body.
In some cases, HP or Power was ranked above Violence, as despite being secondary stats, the trade-off is not good enough to overlook a stat like +40 HP or +6 Power.
The most base Violence possible for any Kami is 45. In general, Insect traits tend to be more violent, which is why Insect types are more often predators. The Kami with the highest possible Violence would have only base values for all other stats and would be an [Insect/Insect] type Kami.
The average is 16.5 and median is 16 Violence. As shown in the graph, if you get a Kami with 20 or above Violence, you have a Kami in the top percentile of violent Kami, and that Kami would make a great predator Kami.
Harvester (Primary Attribute of Power)
If you’re going for an active harvester build, I recommend going for the same type [Body/Hands] ([Eerie/Eerie], [Insect/Insect], [Scrap/Scrap]), as you can harvest more in a short amount of time in typed tiles. The types that are best suited for harvesting in the testnet are Insect and Eerie types due to the type distribution of late-game tiles.
Besides Power, this ranking also takes into account HP and Harmony, which can help prevent unexpected liquidations, especially if you go for a typed harvester. The most base Power possible for any Kami is 42. In general, Eerie is the type more fit for harvesting due to it’s high Power level. The Kami with the highest Power would have base values for all other stats, and would be a [Eerie/Eerie] type Kami.
The average is 16.6 and median is 16 Power. As shown in the graph, if you get a Kami with 20 or above power, you have a Kami in the top percentile for harvesting, making it a great choice for a harvester Kami.
Guardian (Primary Attribute of Harmony & HP)
You can see above that I ranked a lot of lower Harmony Normal body traits above their Scrap counterparts. This is because a Normal body Kami will have a higher general murder threshold, making them much more resistant to attacks from typed predators.
The opposite logic was applied for hands, as having Scrap hands for a Guardian can be quite an advantage. This is because most late-game tiles are Eerie, Insect or Normal, meaning that Scrap hand Kamis will take less damage while harvesting, making this ideal for an overnight AFK build.
Harmony and HP were prioritized, with Harmony being more important than HP in rankings due to the higher availability of HP in the skill-tree.
Violence and Power can be useful if you’re looking to harvest more MUSU or if you’re looking to be more of a threat to possible predator Kami (as recoil damage increases based on your Kami’s Violence). But honestly you’ll be harvesting enough MUSU with your intensity scaling from harvesting for long periods of time.
The most base Harmony possible for any Kami is 39. To achieve this maximum Harmony, you likely need to have a Scrap body Kami. For a Normal body Kami, the maximum is 37 Harmony. The maximum Harmony Kami would have additional base values (Health and Power), unlike the other specializations.
The average is 15.3 and median is 15 Harmony. As shown in the graph, if you get a Kami with 20 or above Harmony, you have a Kami in the top percentile for a tank, making it a great choice for a Guardian Kami.
The most base Health possible for any Kami is 260. To achieve this maximum HP, you likely need to have a Scrap body Kami. For a Normal body Kami, the maximum is 250 Health. The maximum Health Kami would have additional base values (Harmony and Power), unlike other specializations.
The average and median is 90 Health. As shown in the graph, if you get a Kami with 120 or above Health, you have a Kami in the top percentile for a tank, making it a great choice for a Guardian Kami. Health (when divided by 5 to normalize) is the stat that has the highest average, maximum and median.
Enlightened (Primary Attribute of Harmony & Power)
An Enlightened build requires you to be more proactive with your Kamis, so your body type does not matter as much compared to a Guardian build. For this build, a lot of your skills scale off of Harmony and Power, with more weight being applied to Harmony. HP comes second to these two stats, but might still need to be considered as damage taken will impact how often you need to rest your Kami to prevent them from being liquidated.
You may also want to consider possibly utilizing a Normal body, as your Kami will harvest less in Insect nodes with Eerie and Scrap type bodies (shown in the rankings above), which won’t synchronize well with the Enlightened build path.
This section has the stat tables for each trait available for a Kami. The team has announced that there will be additional traits coming with the mainnet launch, so this list is to be expanded in the future.
The slots stat which is found in a few of the traits below will likely be more important as items and equipment becomes available in a future patch for the game, but for now they are not as important as other stats.
Body
There are 22 different body traits, with 5 of each type and 7 Normal type.
Hands
There are 22 different hands traits, with 5 of each type and 7 Normal type.
Face
There are 31 different face traits.
Color
There are 21 different body color traits.
Background
There are 15 different background traits.
This section has the testing values that were used to get the affinities and efficacies of different typed Kamis.
Harvesting Affinity Matchups
Harvesting affinity varies based on the type of matchup. These values are all pulled directly from the game.
Damage Threshold Affinity Matchups
Damage threshold affinity is ~50% depending on the matchup. The without affinity percentage thresholds were calculated using the Harmony of the Defender and the Violence of the Attacker. The real percentage thresholds were derived from the game.
Keep in mind that the percentages deviate away from their proposed values due to the fact that Kamigotchi presents round numbers in the UI, meaning that a threshold value of 36.583 HP would show up as 37 in the game, and the percentage value might be off from the actual value.
