Taking the leap!

Alright I wanted share my thoughts around the announced shift in direction for the $BUILD token, as I have spent the past week discussing, thinking, and processing my thoughts around the new direction.

Like many here in the Iota and $SOON community, I was thrown off a bit by the news at first. The observations I initially made were (…Yes, I am focusing on the potential negatives!!):

1. There are no formal ties between Buildcore and $BUILD

2. There is no direct incentives for Buildcore to support $BUILD

3. The new $BUILD token provides no formal stake in the enterprise platform

4. No extensive roadmap was outlined

5. Build is deploying on BASE not Iota

Summing these up, it was hard for me not to see this as a significant downgrade compared to the previous version of $BUILD. I couldn’t help the feeling that I would be left with something less attractive than originally proposed - why should I be excited about a token with no formal ties to anything?

On the other hand I could see the /justbuild teams’ excitement about this new direction so I took the bait and explored this new emerging ecosystem on BASE and Farcaster to try and see things from a different perspective. Through this new lense and after discussing with other community members and the /justbuild team - My perspective started to change as I started to understand the “why’s and the how’s” - which I have tried to outline in the below.

Reflections on the observations:

1: No formal ties between Buildcore and $BUILD

Launching a token on Farcaster/BASE that is controlled by an enterprise would go against the core ethos of the community and the culture. Farcaster is a place where builders and creators come together to connect, share ideas, build & have fun. So formal ties e.g. through governing control would be a no-go for a successful launch.

2: There is no direct incentives for Buildcore to support $BUILD

Likewise, an enterprise having a big stake in $BUILD would be regarded negative in this environment and would deter people from other communities from joining. With that being said, while Buildcore holds no tokens, each of the /justbuild team members will have a stake through their personal $SOON token holdings - Which is good! We want awesome contributors like them. We want them to have skin in the game, like everybody else - this will bootstrap the /justbuild community. The awesome part about this setup, is that we will all join this new playing field as equals… The only thing that matters is the token. The more skin in the game you have, the more you are incentivised to contribute. There are no complex organisations and no hierarchies to stop anyone from contributing with something cool. This is how we build up a robust community.

3: The new $BUILD token provides no formal stake in the enterprise platform

This one was probably one of the biggest hurdles for me to get past. But as I will be writing more about further below - getting to terms on this one will come down to trusting the team and the vision! To this I can only say that I have never seen anything that had me second guessing this trust in this team, as the community has been an indisputable part of every action taken since inception.

• This is why I trust the team to utilise the full power of the enterprise platform to make $BUILD a success.

• This is why I trust them to have $BUILD at the core for potential enterprise partners in the future.

• This is why I even trust them to open source the entire platform if assessed it would be for the greater good of $BUILD.

This is only my view of things.... And I know all of this requires a lot of trust. But again, there is no guarantees in life…

4: No extensive roadmap was outlined

No roadmap, no promises… again, this comes back to trust, until actions tells the story.

On the other hand this setup allows everybody to do what they do best - Build, contribute and have FUN! It allows everyone to be agile and adapt to how things evolve and seize the opportunities that may arise. All without any complex overhead or disappointments.

And honestly - what attracted me to the Soonaverse in the first place was that the team delivered and its was where we had fun through interacting, trading etc. I came to know a lot of people in the community through this project. And I hope to get to know even more likeminded minds on /justbuild on Farcaster

5: Build is deploying on BASE not Iota

Launching on BASE… ouchh… are we giving up on IOTA? From my view the short and clear answer is NO. This is not about leaving IOTA, this is not about not believing that IOTA will succeed and dominate the crypto space. This is about expanding reach and ceasing the opportunities NOW. We can always double down on IOTA when the time is right. But right now it’s about going where it is all happening - and to me this has become super clear - that the emerging ecosystem around Farcaster and BASE is a perfect opportunity. We will be able to make a difference here and create something awesome! In this place we will be able to attract a bigger and growing community. Here it’s not a zero sum game as it is with IOTA currently.

Lastly… We haven’t even talked about the synergies we could benefit between $SOON and $BUILD ecosystems… Hope to discuss more on this on Discord.

Conclusions

Alright. Reflecting on the above, to me its become super clear that it all comes down to trust - like it does for so many things in life.

Thats why I believe everybody passionate about Soonaverse should join the AMA tonight and check for themselves. It allows for everybody to do what I like to call the vibe check. What’s most important for me to understand is:

• Are the hearts and minds of the team at the right place.

• How do they view the future.

• Are they having fun?
