**“**When I was 23, I learned the power of knowing your fans.
I was promoting a show for an artist in a 1,000 cap room. The manager sent the contract back signed, but crossed off the marketing budget.
Managers usually want more marketing, not less.
This guy wanted zero.
"Why?", I asked.
“Why waste money hoping to reach people who might be interested, when I can just directly message everyone I know cares?”
Simple. Obvious, even.
But, overlooked.
The show sold out & the artist pocketed 85% of that proposed marketing budget. The manager likely did this every show that tour, netting an extra $100k+ (and making every promoter love them).
It's not just that this artist had an email list (everyone better) - it's that they had done all the work to convert everyone into it & understood how to activate them.
They built their tribe and KNEW the power of it.
It's so simple, but when you know your fans, you have a superpower.
- you're not reliant on algorithms
- not constantly rediscovering & reselling
- not wasting money on inefficient ad dollars
Everything becomes repeatable.
There is no better marketing plan than having a direct relationship with your fans.
Building a tribe compounds.
Use every opportunity to upgrade your relationship. Both online & IRL.
Create moments for fans to join in
Onboard smoothly & effectively
Create fan segments (location, intent)
Set up welcome sequences
Nurture & stay engaged
Spend as much time on email, SMS & community as you do on social content.”
From Secret Sessions Newsletter by Harriet JW, THE CONNECTED ARTIST #31
**“**Earlier in the week I was asked on Twitter:
So, how do you get fans to join your mailing list without feeling you're annoying them?
Growing an email list is a fundamental part of building a music career in 2023, but most artists are struggling.
Here's 4 tips to getting your audience onto your list.
1: An Incentive
Give your audience something in return for their data. The promise of ‘'new releases & exclusive content’' just ain't gonna cut it.
Provide an incentive that's going to be genuinely interesting to your audience. The first rough demo of your single? Or new release before the masses? Before you decide what that is, ask yourself - is this genuinely valuable?
2: Making The Ask
So many artists tuck their email sign up box away like a hibernating squirrel. Instead of that flashy pic of you on your home page, try putting your mailing list front and centre and see what happens?
In addition, don't be afraid to talk about your list on social media on the regs.
3: Retaining Your Subscribers
Now we have them on the list, here comes the ''unsubscribe anxiety'' firstly if someone leaves your list, they are unlikely to become a fan in the long run, so don't sweat it. If you want to keep them about value. Instead of saving your mailers for when you have an announcement (& need their support) develop a regular format that they will enjoy receiving.
4: Committing To The Process
Like anything worthwhile, this is a slow process. Committing to building your list will take time effort and dedication. Build slowly every day and before you know it you will have a valuable list you can utilise for years to come.
Given today's volatile data landscape building your list is an absolute necessity part of any music career.”

"Oil and Water" by Skeeboo
“Oil and Water” is the second act of the instrumental suite opening the Tableaux Électroniques album. This track is marked by some stark contrasts: between acoustic and electronic instruments, between fast and slow sections, between swing and straight rhythms. These contrasts won’t blend, but they will come to a sort of uneasy cohabitation, just like oil and water sometimes do.
Utility: Every collector helps funding the professional remixing and remastering of one of the original short pieces "Marilyn" or "Geronimo", that will be released as a Limited Edition. The Golden Egg winner will choose which piece will be released. Every collector will get a Bandcamp code for "Tableaux Electroniques", the album that includes "Oil and Water" and the full three-part suite.

Hailing from Oklahoma City, Heru Ra, artist name Little Vibe, has had one of the most non-traditional paths to Hip-Hop artistry in recent memory. Naturally curious and a longtime enjoyer of music, martial-arts, animation, video-games, culture, and history from a young age, ‘little vibe’ masterfully blends elements from these diverse genres into a cohesive vision told throughout the stories in his music.
After starting the independent creative studio Web3 Studios, LLC in 2022 with his brother, longtime friends and fellow artists BeatsByRay and Young Barid, the studio has dropped a slew of releases to both traditional streaming and upcoming blockchain based platforms: Releasing the ‘Cloud Forms’, ‘SS1 (Deluxe)’, and ‘Top Floor’ albums in 2022. In 2023, Young Barid’s 'OKC' album and little vibe's upcoming ‘Okay, See!’ album with new collaborators Axel, RJC Productions, and P-Status Beats have Web3 Studios putting the music and tech worlds on notice!
