An ode to an Ember! | GratitudeSeries 5/60

Alright, we are continuing our Gratitude series. Today is Day5/60. Guided by books like Blockchain for Dummies and a few whitepapers on using blockchain for labor market given our association with India’s largest private employer it took a few months to even articulate it. Gaurav continued to explore the technical aspects by replicating one of the first peer-to-peer transactions i.e. utorrent. We had hired Gaurav full-time as a consultant to explore the use cases and we went in myriad directions given the nature of this technology and use cases. We thought of creating a new coin called Sarva etc.

One fine day when I was traveling with Vijay, CEO of it just occurred that labour market frictions and reducing it would lead to ease of movement and value accrues just through movement.

Below is a post I published on Medium in May 2018

”It’s important to understand that the movement of money is more important than money itself.

Value comes from Movement.

  1. The value of a particle comes from the movement of electrons taking quantum leaps between orbits of different energy levels.

  2. The value of a person in a professional context is determined not just by the quantity of money moved but by the rate at which the person can facilitate this movement.

  3. The value of a company comes from mastering the movement of money from its consumers’ ledgers to its ledger by solving a problem for them.

  4. The value of a country is derived from the velocity of circulation of money units, which is measured by dividing the GDP by the country’s total money supply. A high velocity of circulation in a country indicates a high degree of inflation. It helps in determining how vigorous a country’s economy is.

  5. The value of the observable universe is determined by the rate at which it is expanding.

You see, right from the quantum particles to the entire known universe, movement determines the value.

What does it mean to us?

Bitcoin and Blockchain are the catalysts of this movement in our current society. Accelerated Motion. This might very well be the human civilization’s escape velocity provided we understand and respect the real power of it and not give into the fads.

#Peoplechain — #blockchain powered professional life — will be our small contribution to this catalysis.”

This spark has evolved further from peoplechain to skillschain to TheThirdPillar to TheInternetOfValue so I take a moment to be grateful for this spark.

A great Tamil poet, Bharathiyar said

அக்னி குஞ்சொன்று கண்டேன் -

அதைஅங்கொரு காட்டிலோர் பொந்திடை வைத்தேன்;

வெந்து தணிந்தது காடு; -

தழல் வீரத்தில் குஞ்சென்றும் மூப்பென்றும் உண்டோ ?

தத்தரிகிட தத்தரிகிட தித்தோம்.

Which translates to

I found an ember.

and Placed it inside a burrow in a forest;

The entire forest was burnt down to ashes;

Does it matter whether an ember is young or old?

Grateful to this ember!
