Define the scope of your design system. What components and styles will it include?
When defining the scope of your design system, you should consider which parts of your product ecosystem will be included and how they will work together. You should also think about how your design system will evolve over time.
Create a dedicated Figma file for your design system, and add a canvas for each component or style.
Use Figma's built-in versioning features to track changes to your design system over time.
Figma's built-in versioning feature is called "Snapshots". To use it, simply click on the "Snapshots" icon in the top left corner of your Figma window. This will open up a panel where you can see all the changes that have been made to your design system. To track a specific change, simply click on the "Track" button next to it.
Make use of Figma's collaboration features to allow multiple team members to work on the design system concurrently.
Figma's collaboration features allow you to work on a design with multiple people in real-time. You can also leave comments on specific areas of the design, and @mention specific team members to get their feedback.
Publish your design system as a Figma community file so that others can use it in their own projects.
In Figma, open your design system file.
Go to File > Publish to Community…
In the Publish to Community dialog, select the file type (Figma or PDF) and check the "Include in Community" checkbox.
Click Publish.
Share it and show it to the world 🌎
