It turns out since we started running the first #Blockathon event in 2017 a lot has happened and we figured it’d be a good opportunity to take a moment and write down what is the Blockathon anyway
So, what exactly is the Blockathon DAO thing you’re talking about?
The Blockathon DAO is a rolling cohort based program to learn about Blockchain technologies and build exciting projects in cryptocurrency and decentralized web space, or as the cool kids call it: ⚡️ Web3 ⚡️
The Blockathon programs have few learning touch points to engage in:
Ongoing Bounty Rewards
Hackathon Competitions
Entrepreneurial Cultural Experiences
As a #Learn2Earn program, the Blockathon is providing participants with unique opportunity: Follow your curiosity and get rewarded to learn from world class entrepreneurs who will mentor you while you work on bounties and compete in hackathons!
Learning Tracks in the Blockathon DAO
The themes that define the Blockathon cohorts generally include foundational building blocks for the decentralized web.
Decentralized Finance (DeFi), the DeFi space has become a clear leading technology in financial products innovation, DeFi products are gobbling ever growing trading volume and scale of liquidity from capital markets. Being permissionless, composable and digital native, DeFi enables entrepreneurs to innovate on what would otherwise be highly regulated and restrictive. DeFi provides access to financial products without censorship or discrimination.
Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs), NFTs have emerged as the innovation and building block that was required to capture mainstream applications. NFTs unlocks value from assets that are otherwise often illiquid or have slow appraisal velocity. They serve as core primitive for the open metaverse with strong roots in internet culture and art.
Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs), Digital native productive coordination tools are disrupting legacy organizations and institutions. DAOs innovation unlock the long tail of value coordination and lower the barrier of the experience of shared resource management.
Middleware: Decentralized storage, compute and data delivery that serve and support full application stack for the decentralised web to scale and maintain it’s integrity without intermediary cloud services. The middleware layer is one of the least explored, yet most important in the path toward achieving unstoppable and decentralized web.
Metaverse: Immersive Digital Experiences.
There’s a growing number of people that spend significant amount of their time and energy engaging with digital experiences. The Metaverse is a natural progression improved experiences of presence and digital life augmentations. The Metaverse unlocks access to experiences that are otherwise only available for people who can afford expensive goods and services IRL.
Schedule:
The Blockathon DAO has cohort based flow. Cohorts duration is something we’re still toying around with to find what works best for which type of cohort. The typical duration of a Blockathon cohort is 3 to 6 weeks. However, some of the bounties and the community calls are open to the public continuously, only the hackathon competition and certain time sensitive bounties follow more strict constraints.
What comprises of the Blockathon rhythm schedule:
Weekly community call
Workshops and learning sessions
Intense hackathon competitions
Who is welcome to the Blockathon?
We follow the entrepreneurial motto of Michael Crouch as originally found in Michael Crouch Innovation Center in UNSW, Sydney
Everyone is welcome
Everyone is an innovator
There is always a better way
This basically mean that the Blocakthon cohorts aren’t limited to Blockchain developers only, they’re open to creators, designers, hustlers, researchers and pretty much anyone who’s ready to roll sleeves, curious to learn new things and try to apply their knowledge while they be good and make something people want!
