Punk is not dead, but sometimes it needs funding to make cool shit. Luckily, Web3 is really good at making cool shit happen.
Donations will go to producing Mars Ray’s music video for her song ‘A Promise.’ In exchange, she promises to film a badass video of her smashing shit in a cubicle, including a handmade piñata of Mark Zuckerberg’s head filled with sweet, delicious money. Oh, and some candy, too.
“You know that song of mine (“A Promise”) where I say over and over again that I “don’t want my brains on the walls of my office?”. Well, I’m making a music video for it where I destroy office supplies and a piñata of Mark Zuckerberg’s head. I’m asking you to help cover the cost of making this beautiful piece of debauchery.”
Mars Ray, the artist formerly known as Cruel Children, is an incredibly talented feminist punk musician who has been busting her ass for the past decade to spread her important message using music. Mars Ray is fronted by Ella Sanandaji, a trained jazz vocalist (you’ll be blown away by her voice, trust me), a born and raised New Yorker now living in Philadelphia with the rest of the artists who were priced out of NYC.
Ella (Mars Ray) and I have been friends since 2012. As a Web3 native working full-time in crypto, I set this up. All the funds will go directly to Ella’s ETH address.
Prior to moving to Web3, I worked as a writer and blogger in Web2. As a music photographer and journalist, I saw time and time again how music and arts were disregarded and written off by mainstream society. I’ve also seen firsthand how different Web3 is.
The ethos of decentralization, ownership, and autonomy has brought on a Renaissance of creativity and innovation. As someone who has used Crypto since ~2011, I’ve seen this growth myself (yeah, I’m a Mt. Gox OG 😉) As we know with the major success of Crypto Punks, the values of punk music and crypto are a Venn Diagram with a lot of crossover.
The top 3 donors in the first 72 hours get a special NFT to say thank you. See this as a punk IOU - it may mean something later, but it may not. It will definitely be a symbol of gratitude and a badge of honor for supporting a small artist in their dream to smash a symbolic representation of the tech giants using social media to make money through manipulating our fears and selling our private data.
Everyone who donates 0.01 ETH or higher gets an edition of Mars Ray’s first music NFT of the track “A Promise”
