The era of Layer 2’s is upon us. Without compromising decentralization and security, Ethereum has pivoted to a rollup-centric roadmap, which sees it delegate the executing of transactions on Layer 2’s to scale by magnitudes of order, and having these data rolled up to Ethereum’s Layer 1 main chain for settlement.

It is decentralization that enables censorship resistance, openness, data privacy and near-unbreakable security. This is fundamental to the meaningful and mass adoption of Ethereum. Rollups enable that, and in this piece, I detail what rollups are and how they work at a non-technical level.
