Why does ContentFi want to build a Can’t Be Evil (CBE) Toolkit?

Our project is focusing on unlocking the value of copyright on NFT by bringing authorization and derivatives together.

We have been therefore looking for a universal and authoritative legal framework to consolidate and standardize different kinds of copyright of a variety of NFT projects.

When a16z launched its Can’t Be Evil(CBE) NFT licenses, it was immediately clear to us that this was what we needed.

The entire legal framework of CBE is very thorough and robust for sure while we also realized its missing parts when we dive in deep, especially considering the difficulty for average people to understand the legal provisions.

Therefore, in order to help more people better understand this licensing framework, we proposed a set of flow charts to assist NFT project parties to choose the appropriate license immediately after CBE was released. And our technical team has developed a set of tools to allow everyone to experience the authorization process of NFT with clear legal definitions of copyright for free. Meanwhile, we will seamlessly integrate this tool into our flagship products that we are aiming to release later.

What problem does it solve?

Many NFT projects did not copyright into consideration at all, or draft licenses may create more ambiguities than they can deal with. Some copyright loopholes cause serious confusion over NFT licenses as well as many other legal issues.

The “Can’t Be Evil” license is able to help NFT creators protect or release their copyrights; grant NFT holders an irrevocable, enforceable, and easy-to-understand baseline of rights; help creators, holders and their communities unleash the fullest potential of their projects in terms of creativity and economy.

The tools we’ve built demonstrate the potential of this licensing framework to solve problems in the real world by bringing it from the theoretical and protocol levels to practical application scenarios.

Who should use the CBE toolkit?

Any participant in the creator economy: creators, holders, co-builder, potential IP business partners, etc., should use this tool kit to strengthen their understanding of intellectual property rights. The original intention of releasing this product is to popularize or convey NFT copyright licensing.

How does it work?

You can use our tools to define the legal framework of your NFT project, and publish the NFT collection in any image format on the Ethereum test net or main net. You can track more information on Etherscan, and the released NFT tokens can also be traded in any NFT marketplace on the Ethereum chain. Of course, the most important thing is that all NFTs released through our tools will have a clear license defined by the creator’s preferences, and the address of the contract can also be entered on our platform to verify.

What’s our future plan for it?

If you are interested in the functions mentioned above such as IP licensing, authorization, derivatives, profit distribution, etc. Please stay tuned for more updates on our follow-up products, will see you soon!
