NFT’s have garnered the attention of the masses. Some are status symbols while others have some sort of utility. When many people think about NFTs, they think of a two-dimensional monkey or a pixelated person. However, the future of NFTs collides with the future of digital experiences such as the metaverse. As time progresses, we are seeing our digital identities becoming as equally as important as our physical identities. With the ability to create value with one's digital identity being more of an option, it will be interesting to see how a digital-first identity will impact the culture.
One person that is exploring the nature of a metaverse first persona is Digital Trapper. Digital trapper is an NFT called a VOID which are 3-dimensional figures that can be leveraged in the metaverse. Digital Trapper combines the culture of a traditional rap artist into the digital world of the metaverse. The Digital Trapper persona was created by Armani Simmons, a Morehouse College graduate who is a crypto veteran. He began mining crypto in 2017 but always had a passion for entrepreneurship and music. Those passions have led him to formulate Digital Trapper into an entity that creates music but also releases other content such as education.
The metaverse is still very nascent as the VR, AR, and MR market size will reach around 300 billion dollars in the next 2 years. According to Bloomberg, the metaverse as a whole could be worth around 800 billion dollars by 2024. Along with increasing market sizes, interest in the metaverse has also increased due to cultural activation such as concerts. According to Influencer Marketing Hub, over 45 million people watched Travis Scott’s Astronomical concert that was featured in Fortnite.
With the growth of the technology and an increase in the adoption of VR, AR, and blockchain, it will make sense for creatives to build audiences who reside in the metaverse. Digital Trapper has noticed this trend and will be able to build its base as the industry as a whole grows. Starting a metaverse first community provides the ability to develop a global following and fan base rather than beginning in a physical space. With a global community from the outset, creators like Digital Trapper will aim to progress and monetize early users of the metaverse and grow as the technology becomes mainstream.
Ultimately, creators like Digital Trapper are ahead of the curve when it comes to the cross-section of culture, the metaverse, and blockchain technology. As the metaverse becomes more utilized, Digital Trapper and others will have digital-first identities with loyal fan bases and achieve a global presence. With a global fanbase, Digital Trapper will have more opportunities to monetize and receive crypto as payment. All things considered, the metaverse will bring a new frontier to artist community relationships.
