With its powerful UI and high degree of interoperability, Fractal provides the best framework for launching highly composable DAOs and SubDAOs securely on-chain.
Decent’s journey of progressive decentralization places us at the forefront of innovation in our industry but has also presented a new set of challenges.
As much as we benefit from increased transparency and resiliency, we also have to navigate new approaches to operational efficiency and responsibility-sharing throughout our organization.
The limitations of existing DAO tools significantly impeded our ability to experiment with our DAO structure while maintaining our ability to make strong and agile decisions.
After doing some research, it became clear that we weren’t the only ones experiencing these limitations. On-chain votes can take weeks to complete, and low participation rates on proposal votes are a common struggle among this generation of decentralized organizations.
Many DAOs attempt to delegate important decisions to SubDAOs or ‘pods’ to prevent progress from stalling, but due to the lack of purpose-built tools, the result is often that teams get stuck in a DAO structure that is complex and hard to change. Organizational experimentation dies and the industry sees ‘going on-chain’ as ‘giving up agility’.
These challenges have forced DAOs to move some processes off-chain, compromising on some of the exact benefits that the blockchain brought them in the first place.
After our search for a tool that would help us address these challenges turned up unsuccessful, we decided to build one.
Introducing Fractal, a powerful tool that enables DAOs to customize their organizational structure, unlocking a new level of coordination both within and between DAO communities.
DAOs using Fractal are able to split themselves into highly agile and robust SubDAOs of infinite complexity. Think of SubDAOs as small, fully functional DAOs that have a specific purpose as outlined by their parent DAO.
Each SubDAO has its own treasury, governance, and optional permissions to empower - or restrict - their access to vital DAO functions like marketing, engineering, treasury management, and more. This greatly increases the agility of contributor decision-making, while also relieving the majority of DAO members from the need to be experts in all areas of operations.
Fractal also facilitates the interoperability of these SubDAOs, providing the flexibility to interact and experiment with a broad ecosystem of protocols.
DAOs can use Fractal’s no-code Proposal Templates, to pull and bundle common DAO smart contract interactions from across Ethereum.
This empowers experimentation in yield, bounties, and governance at every SubDAO level. As these SubDAOs are on-chain, it’s simple for less technical members to imitate and copy these functionalities into their own DAO for further iteration.
As Fractal is built on top of trusted Gnosis Safes to hold each SubDAO’s treasury, there are zero switching costs. Organizations are welcome to start from scratch, or bring their existing treasuries and ERC-20 tokens into the platform.
As Decent continues to decentralize, Fractal makes it easier to retain the agility and focus that we honed over our years as a traditional company.
We believe that the more organizations experiment on-chain, the more we’ll see a huge influx of funds flowing into DAO treasuries. We envision a future in which Fractal unlocks the potential of this human coordination by being built from the ground up to empower any variety of DAOs to form on-chain.
