FOG is a reference to fog of war from strategy rpgs.
Strategize/Decide and Evaluate/Act 100% on chain
Stake ➡️ Signal ➡️ Govern ➡️ Retro ➡️ Repeat ➡️
FOG is a game to promote open collaboration and reflection in a community through transparent oversight, quality curation, a data driven decision making processes and retroactive rewards with the goal of building the DAO space through seasonal iteration.
FOG (lore version) The inquisition has begun; decentralization and encryption is heresy. Innate magical abilities to collectively coordinate are beginning to develop within each of you. Together you cooperatively participate in a cycle to set goals, complete campaigns to generate power, then reward each other with that harvested power. With this, and over time, you will slay Moloch and save the future.
HAUS holders
The HAUS token primarily has been used for fundraising and liquidity in the past but the idea has always been to add governance utility as well. It is fixed at 1 million supply as a standard non upgradable mainnet erc20. It was adopted by the DAOhaus community 3 years ago and is rigid in its contract but being a standard token allows composibility with other protocols and bridging, which in turn allows flexibility.
To make DAOs work and proliferate the DAOhaus ethos through a base layer framework. Something like a multiplayer co-op “meta” game.
Framework priorities
Base layer rails that can be built on and modified.
Surface high level objects
Reward successful outcomes
Inclusive to all current members and paths to onboard new ones
Takes advantage of the delegate set to enable and execute decisions
No central dependencies
Slay Moloch
To participate in PublicHAUS you can stake HAUS in periodic open staking rounds to receive PUB (the Moloch V3 shares token). PUB and its configuration is controlled by the DAO (things like upgradability and transferability). Just like with all moloch daos you can unstake (ragequit) for your backing collateral (in this case HAUS) at any time. DAOhaus V3 has added delegation mini-apps, so after staking you can pick a delegate or apply to be a ‘Champion’ delegate to receive delegation yourself (championship approved by the DAO). Open staking windows are for 1 month, then the onboarder is paused until reopened by the DAO.
Another mini-app that DAOhaus V3 has created is Strategic Signaling Sessions. PublicHAUS can have a proposal at any time to trigger one of these sessions and it allows all members (Champion or not) to participate in multi-choice weighted signaling. The primary use case for these will be in the start of a season by gathering Signal around High level Objectives and the expected key results over a season. But these signal events are not limited to only sessions at the start of the season; they can be used at any time to find higher definitions around objectives, or in retro as we will see.
The Champion delegates are the enablers of the DAO. A good delegate should strive to reduce information asymmetry and spearhead initiatives around objectives. This includes treasury management, protocol parameter management, and general evangelism of the mission.
At the end of each season members hold another Strategic Signaling Session to award and recognize contributors to the DAO. The results of this session enable reward distributions. Unlike the open staking session where anyone can join, only people/teams that have generated value towards the goals of the DAO are rewarded with more power. This is the way to reward successful outcomes, it’s also a way to document, recognize and celebrate all the hard work over the previous season.
This process of Stake -> Signal -> Govern -> Retro repeats in seasonal iterations. With the schedule eventually being automated and automatic.
What about Govern/Act step?
You may be wondering what happens during this middle phase. Will follow up with some ideas around project based funding in the next article.
DAOhaus strives to create capture resistant and decentralized tech that can be used by anyone, not just huge well funded companies, but also small communities. All should have these tools at their disposal and be able to deploy custom solutions fairly easily.
Starting a shared treasury should not require a long history in blockchain tech and a computer science degree, also it shouldn’t require a legal or business background. If a community sees the necessity and importance of decentralization they should be able to do that.
There are a ton of centralized community tools out there already, they work well for some things. But some things just can’t be solved if ultimately a person or group can flip the on/off switch. On the other hand there are not a lot of tools that prioritize decentralization and so that’s why we keep experimenting, we try new things and eat our own dog food, and keep building. There is a place for centralized communities but in the long run there is a bigger place for decentralized ones. In this space we are at the point where experimentation is vital to progress, so that’s what we do.
DAOhaus is in an exciting transitional period. Come join us, use the onboarding app, hop in the discussions in our discords ‘PublicHaus’ forum or just lurk and see what we have been up to.
