In this blog post, we'll break down Forma, the first sovereign chain to go live on the Celestia network, built on the Astria stack. Forma is a purpose-built chain for fully onchain creations that uses the TIA token as its native gas asset and utilizes EVM as its execution environment.
Furthermore, we'll guide you through using the Forma network, from bridging your TIA tokens to exploring the ecosystem and leveraging various useful tools.
Forma, the first sovereign rollup live on Celestia and built on the Astria stack with custom precompiles for onchain metadata, is a purpose-built chain that focuses on fully onchain creations. It uses the TIA token as its native gas asset and utilizes EVM as its execution environment.
The Forma network has already launched on mainnet, enabling anyone to building onchain. As a decentralized and permissionless network, it provides open access for all users and developers to interact with it.
Currently, Forma operates on a dedicated instance of the Astria Sequencing Layer called forma-net
. This centralized system comprises four Astria sequencer nodes using CometBFT for consensus and submits blobs to the Celestia network.
Forma's development roadmap includes plans to integrate with Astria's Decentralized Sequencing Layer. This transition is expected to coincide with Astria's mainnet launch later this year.
A sovereign rollup is a blockchain that publishes transactions to another chain for ordering and data availability, but manages its own settlement. In the modular stack, it handles execution and settlement, while the DA layer manages consensus and data availability.
The Astria Stack is a decentralized infrastructure for building and deploying decentralized rollups. It consists of three main components: a sequencer network for data ordering across multiple rollups, a conductor that bridges the sequencer, DA layers, and rollup execution, and a composer that enhances UX by simplifying transaction submission.
While Astria currently supports only EVM rollups out of the box, its architecture is VM-agnostic, allowing developers to customize and build rollups with diverse execution environments, including MoveVM, SVM, and others.
Modularium is a platform on the Forma network that specializes in NFT collection minting and trading, providing collectors with a user-friendly marketplace to discover and acquire unique digital art.
Highlight is an open platform for art and culture deployed on the Forma network. It enables artists to create and mint NFTs, while allowing collectors to explore, bid on, and curate digital artworks.
The Forma ecosystem offers a diverse range of NFT collections to explore. Here are some noteworthy examples:

The Forma Bridge, powered by Hyperlane, enables smooth transfers of TIA tokens from both the Celestia and Stride networks to the Forma network.
The Relay Bridge enables users to transfer assets from any EVM-compatible chain into TIA tokens on the Forma network.
Users can interact with the Forma chain using an EVM-compatible wallet such as MetaMask by adding the following custom network in settings:
Name: Forma
RPC URL: https://rpc.forma.art
Chain ID: 984122
Currency symbol: TIA
Leap Wallet recently added support for the Forma chain, offering an asset and NFT tracker, easy transfers, and a built-in bridge for moving assets between IBC-enabled networks (Celestia, Stargaze, Stride and other networks).
