Introduction
Many large virtual events have been held in the metaverse so far. From big events such as metaverse launch ceremonies,
cultural seminars, metaverse New Year, small to people's concerts, weddings, graduation ceremonies, etc. More and more important ceremonies in real life are projected into the metaverse.
These events require elegant dresses with a sense of ritual and styling, and the "Original Source" collection is a digital ceremonial fashion designed for these major occasions.
Inspiration
In the ancient Chinese philosophical theory of the five elements, the five elements emphasize the formation of all things in the world and the inter-transformation relationship between them. The ancient people categorized everything in the universe into five elements, namely earth, metal, water, wood and fire, and the human body is also composed of a small universe, in which the five organs of the human body and the five elements have a corresponding relationship, and these inner life activities, which are reflected in the human emotions are the five thoughts, grief, fear, anger and joy, and at the same time, through the emotions from the inside to the outside of the five colors of yellow, white, black, blue and red, the designer Chen Yaping has created this series of digital virtual ritual fashion by reflecting the interrelationship between these five elements.
The "Original Source" series of etiquette fashion is based on the ancient Chinese philosophy of the five elements, " Source" is diverse, multi-dimensional and multi-faceted, and the multi-faceted digital structure is derived from human emotions in the real world. Metal, wood, water, fire and earth, the five material elements that make up the universe, are used as the source of materials.
In terms of design concept, designer Chen Yaping combined the internal and external relationship between tradition and material to jointly construct digital ritual fashion, thus establishing a link between the virtual world and reality, and expressing the diverse possibilities of traditional culture in a new context through the exploration and application of digital fashion, while proposing a new perspective on the continuation of cultural lineage.
In terms of material and shape, the design of this " Original Source" series of ceremonial fashion borrows from the five elements of metal, wood, earth, water and fire, the five material elements that make up everything in the universe, as the material source of this design. The exploration of variability allows the garment to become a part of the body, and through the state revealed by emotions and the combination of the characteristics of gold, wood, water, fire and earth materials, together they complete the emotional expression of fashion.
From this series of garments, we can see the combination of the material forms of these five elements and their corresponding emotions, and each piece is regarded as a unique living body.
In terms of shape, the designer has taken the structural styles of traditional Chinese national costumes, such as stand-up collars and folding fans, while at the same time decomposing and innovating the national cultural elements through exaggeration, division and folding, with unique recognition.
In order to achieve the elegance and inclusiveness of the dresses, this series of dresses adopts the design of waist closing and high waistline, which can stretch the proportion of the digital double and create a dignified and decent decoration effect.
Metal element: Sadness
From hard to soft, from the initial flair of personality to a time of loss, mourning, the lack of spirit, expressing the emotion of sadness.
The life form corresponding to the emotion "sadness" is metal.
"Sadness" is a state of mind due to sorrow and pain, which is often expressed in Chinese medical theory as a gloomy face and a lack of vitality. Combining the characteristics of the element of metal, which can transform between rigid and soft to each other, the designer takes advantage of the anti-gravity feature in the metaverse clothing design to transform the two states before and after the digital emotion fashion. In this work, you can feel the transition from hardness to softness, from flare to loss.
Wood Element: Fury
The emotion of anger is expressed by the momentary glow and splitting.
When people encounter something unreasonable, or when something does not work out, they become angry and burst out in anger. When people suppress their anger to the point of no return, they suddenly explode, their bodies swell up, and their faces turn red. Combined with the characteristics of wood, it is manifested as a disintegration from the inside out. In this work, the designer uses glowing and cracking to express the emotion of "anger".
Water Element: Fear
The rapid condensation of water expresses the emotion of fear, which is the stagnation of the heart and tension.
"Fear" , the timidity caused by extreme mental tension, which is expressed externally as fearfulness and depression. When fear spreads, water will quickly condense and gather to produce a protective mechanism, thus the designer expressed the emotion of "fear".
Fire element: Joy
Happiness is short-lived and fleeting. Combined with the characteristics of fire, the happiness that ignites at one time, to express the emotion of "joy".
The life form corresponding to the emotion "joy" is fire, which is the expression of a happy mood.
There is a Chinese saying - people are happy when they are happy, which means that people are refreshed by happy events. Joy is light and relaxing, with the happy factor emanating from all around. At the same time, joy is also short-lived and fleeting. Therefore, we combine the characteristics of fire with this momentary burst of joy to express the emotion of "joy".
Earth Element: Think
This irregular, granular form is used to express the emotion of thought, which is like a mess and the passage of time.
To "think" means to concentrate on a problem. If you think too much, your mind will be affected and your thinking will fluctuate and become disordered. Combined with the characteristics of the earth, it is gradually built up from nothing in nature, combining and flowing around without any regularity. Therefore, the designer uses these irregular particles to express the emotions of disorderly thinking.
