About a week ago, we announced and released endorse.fun, an onchain social endorsement and tipping platform designed to build a unique social graph and help establish a much-needed reputation layer of Web3.
With the growing number of people engaging in Web3 social platforms, mainly Farcaster and Lens, there's a pressing need for improved reputation systems and enhanced discoverability of individuals. Just as people create lists of intriguing users by following them, users will be able to build lists of reputable individuals by assigning endorsements.
Reputation systems will become a key component of decentralized systems where no centralized authority can decide the rules of the game. We believe all Web3 users should jointly contribute, choose, and participate in constructing the dynamic and ever-changing Web of Trust.
endorse.fun paves the way for a future where decentralized applications (dapps) can offer easier discovery of users, better content & user recommendations, amplified influence, protection against spam and Sybil attacks, enhanced governance and decision-making, and much more. Let's see how endorse.fun works and how it strives to improve the Web3 social ecosystem!
The underlying protocol of endorse.fun is called Ethereum Endorsement Service - EES.
Unified Endorsement System: Users can endorse accounts across multiple platforms — blockchain address, ENS domain, Farcaster handle, or Lens handle. This cross-platform capability results in a comprehensive, singular reputation for each user, fostering a targeted and meaningful endorsement system. In the future, EES will expand to support traditional social platforms, such as GitHub and Twitter, significantly expanding and bringing Web2 users to the Web3 ecosystem.
Enhanced Tipping System: In addition to endorsements, EES features a transparent tipping mechanism where users can directly support profiles they endorse. Making donations through blockchain transactions is straightforward, and EES attestation adds a transparent onchain stamp of the given support to another user.
By endorsing other users (and giving them optional tips), you are helping to build a social graph of Web3 participants and people doing awesome stuff. Based on a constructed social graph, we will work towards developing a reputation layer that will help improve and offer valuable information about the social profiles of Web3 users that other dapps will be able to integrate.
Some of the questions we believe EES will be able to help with:
Who are the top developers in the Web3 ecosystems?
Who are the up-and-coming NFT artists?
Who are the best people to whom I should distribute this airdrop?
What are the best Web3 meme creators posting today on Farcaster?
Which developers were endorsed by the best Web3 founders?
As the social graphs grow and expand over time, our services improve, and we integrate additional reputation signals, there will be more use cases where EES will play an important role!
While EES is a versatile protocol for the entire Web3 ecosystem, the endorse.fun presents a platform where you can start endorsing through EES today!
endorse.fun features an intuitive interface, allowing you to find other users with just a few clicks, select the type of endorsement (e.g., developer, artist, meme creator ...), add an optional donation/tip and comment, and create an onchain endorsement seamlessly.
Currently, there are fees associated with making endorsements on the dapp. These fees serve several crucial purposes in the EES:
Prevent Bot Spamming: Fees deter users from creating fake endorsements from random accounts, making it less likely for individuals to manipulate the system.
Fund Development: The fees contribute to the development of new products and services, ensuring continuous improvement and innovation.
Establish a Treasury: They help build a treasury for future incentives and support the growth of the platform.
Provide Grants: Fees enable the provision of grants to projects building on top of the platform, based on community decision-making.
This is just the initial release of the EES and endorse.fun dapp. We are already working on new features and visualizations that will better showcase user endorsements, making endorsing easier and more impactful. Additionally, we will be releasing documentation and protocol specifications to assist with third-party integrations and incorporating the EES reputation system into your dapp.
Several functionalities are currently in the R&D phase and will be gradually rolled out over the coming months. These include Web2 social account integrations, social graphs, advanced reputation scoring mechanisms, forward tipping, and more. Exciting times are ahead!
Endorsing made fun! 🤝
EES aims to tackle one of the hardest problems in Web3: determining who is reputable. We believe this challenge can only be solved iteratively through the cooperation of all Web3 users and by building useful dapps that contribute to the overall reputation system.
