Elagabal X Aptos. Blockchain for People

Aptos is a L1 blockchain and it's a new gem in the world of crypto projects. A large-scale marketing program deployed in the bear market attracted a lot of remaining crypto enthusiasts and awakened hamsters. In the Olone language, Aptos means People, and they are really building something for people. Aptos is creating new technologies that promise scalability and speed higher than all existing crypto projects. At the moment, Aptos claims that its blockchain is capable of processing up to 160,000 transactions per second (TPS). For comparison, Solana has a transaction speed of only 3000 TPS. The project has potential, so it's worth talking about it.

Team

Mo Sheikh and Avery Ching are the first creators of the project and I bet you've heard these names. They were engaged in creating a Diem wallet for Meta. After the closure of Diem, they founded their own startup. In total, there are more than 350 people on the team. Among them are the original creators of the Move language, Move Prover, the BlockSTM parallel execution mechanism, and the Narwhal and Bullshark consensus mechanisms.

Technology

How it works:

  • Aptos is written in the Move programming language. Each validator node translates transactions along with the current state of the blockchain registry as input to MoveVM (virtual machine). MoveVM processes these inputs. As soon as the consensus agrees and fixes the result, it becomes publicly available.

  • Move prover is a verifier for smart contracts. It provides additional guarantees for contract and behavior invariants. It's necessary to ensure security against malicious objects.

  • Aptos doesn't require pre-reading of data, which means that the continuity of transaction execution doesn't break down. Continuity is maintained for transactions of any complexity. It provides high throughput and reduces application delays and simplifies development.

  • Modular architecture of Aptos allows for achieving instant updates. The system can quickly introduce new technological innovations and support new use cases.

  • It uses the segmentation of validators and a parallel execution mechanism. Segmentation provides the horizontal scalability of throughput without additional complexity for node operators.

  • Paranoid mode in MoveVM made for extra security. When the code enters the system, the bytecode verifier checks the properties. At the same time, the paranoid mode repeatedly makes the same checks during the execution of the bytecode.

  • The Move ability system ensures that a value is not copied, deleted, stored, or used as a key unless it was made on purpose.

  • Pipeline and modular approach in transaction processing stages are used as well. Transaction distribution, block metadata ordering, parallel transaction execution, packet storage, and ledger certification all of it work at the same time. This approach uses all available physical resources, increases hardware efficiency, and ensures highly parallel execution.

Alright, it’s quite hard to appreciate all of these if you're not a programmer. What are the benefits for users? Here some of the most important IMO:

  • The data should be stored in the account it belongs to. In Move, the data can be stored in the account of the module owner. By placing assets in trusted resources inside the account, the owner can guarantee that even a maliciously programmed module will not be able to change these assets.

A module in Move can be either a library or a program that can create store, or transfer resources.

  • A user can directly transfer a token to another account only if the receiving user already has a resource for storing this token or has such a token. TokenTransfers enable a user to request a token stored in another user's resource. Now you can not worry about the scam coins that suddenly appear in your wallet.

  • The sender of the transaction is represented by the signatory, verified owner of a certain account. The signer has the highest level of permissions in Move and is the only person able to add resources to the account. The module developer may require the presence of the signatory. Feel this safety level folks.

  • They use generics which only store data of a certain type. Generics provide a high level of security for each of the tokens. There are two standards of tokens, which are provided with different types of security. 1. Coin is a token associated with a currency and it uses generics. 2. Token which is a token associated with assets or NFT. It uses its own universal identifier and avoids generics due to the complexity that affects the organization of its use.

Cooperations

💎In 2022, the project raised $150 million from a16z, Jump Crypto, Griffin Gaming Partners, Circle Ventures, Tiger Globa, Binance Labs, Multicoin Capital, and sad FTX Ventures. The total amount of funds raised has reached $400 million. And let me remind you: it was in a bear market. Not bad at all. In mid-September 2022, Binance Labs made additional strategic investments in Aptos Labs to accelerate the implementation of the project in the industry. 💎Google Cloud and Aptos Labs entered into a partnership in the autumn of 2022. Within the framework of cooperation:

  • Google Cloud has launched a validator on Aptos

  • Google Cloud has become an infrastructure provider for the Aptos ecosystem

  • an acceleration program was formed with the Aptos Foundation, aimed at supporting Web3 startups and Aptos developers with loans in $APT

  • conducting and financing hackathons

  • Aptos blockchain data will be indexed and available in BigQuery, which expands the boundaries of the Aptos ecosystem development in Google Cloud.

💎Aptos has partnered with South Korean game studio Npixel to introduce Web3 technology into its gaming initiatives platform. Npixel is one of the fastest-growing game developers in South Korea. South Korean gaming companies are betting on blockchain games. Millions of Npixel gamers will be able to safely own Aptos assets and exchange them in a user-friendly network.

💎Aptos Labs has signed a contract with Certik and Holburn to audit the Move virtual machine. Many critical issues have been discovered.

💎Aptos Labs led and organized a community audit focused on the bytecode verifier. Engineers from MystenLabs, Starcoin, MoveBit, and OtterSec have teamed up with Aptos engineers for this work. During this audit, many problems were discovered and fixed before Aptos got into the main network.

Ecosystem

The mainnet went live on October 12, 2022. Before that, there were three AIT testnets. However, the development did not end there. Soon, Aptos plans to launch another test network, which means that the team will test new tools and features, and users will get big updates.

The Aptos ecosystem has already expanded. Take a look

We tell you briefly about the projects that interested us

Pontem Network

Community

Like most crypto startups, Aptos actively interacts with the community. Recently, a program for active participants of the Aptos Collective community was announced. Aptos Collective members will work closely with core members of the Aptos Foundation and Aptos Labs team, contribute to the Aptos ecosystem and gain valuable experience in Web3. Of course, this will benefit not only the project but also the users who believe in the project. This program was such a success, so they have to close the form after a few days it was opened because they've got more than 10000 applications!

The startup announced a series of hackathons in 2023. Aptos World Tour Hackathon 2023 is dedicated to community relations, creativity, and the future of Web3. The first hackathon in Seoul was held in February. 400+ applicants. 180+ participants. 15 winners, look how cool it was

Prizes were fifteen awards comprising the $500k pool, plus ongoing incubator and ecosystem support of $2.5M for projects continuing to build out of the hackathon and the broader Korean ecosystem. Over 50 projects were officially submitted to the hackathon.

There were 3 winners in each field: Gaming, DeFi, Social/NFTs, Tooling, and Best Move.

The next hackathon will be held in March in Denver. Considering how young the project is, it's great to see the support and active development from the community!

Conclusion

Nothing special to say here. As you saw and read, Aptos is building great things. It has its own original technologies, they think about user experience, support new things, and makes the crypto space better. WE like it and wish all the best to Aptos.
