This quarter our community activities were very much theme-based, having 3 major community programs that required several activities to run successfully. We finished the Public Goods Round 2023, as well as the NFTs Future of Art Workshops, Exhibition, and Mint. We started the Governance Season which is expected to run until next quarter. In between we had some great sessions for community building and progress on the road to ETH Latam 2024.
1 Public Goods CLR Round.
1 NFT Exhibition.
7 Meetups.
4 X Spaces.
2 Virtual Sessions.
12 Educational Sessions with Students.
10 Collaborations with other entities.
This was a 4-month work that yielded several community activities aimed at educating, onboarding, and funding public goods. We started in May and finished the round in July, having the disbursements and project activities kick off in August.
Added support to multiple languages to clr.fund frontend.
Added Spanish translation to the clr.fund frontend.
10.87K DAI in overall funding.
18 projects applied and 11 were accepted in the round.
9 events were held for this round (5 of them physical in 3 cities and 4 of them online).
42 voters (last round 23).
4 local Ethereum communities participated (last round 2).
You can read a more detailed round analysis in the following article.
We hosted an X space to showcase the projects that were participating in the CLR Round, 231 tuned in. Listen to the recording here.
The community gathered over three cities (Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, La Ceiba) to teach and support other community members how to vote in the CLR Round, a demo donation, and further assistance in the process.
We collaborated with ETH KIPU to talk about Quadratic Funding, CLR, and the 2nd round we organized in Honduras where 135 tuned in. Listen to the recording here.
All the merit of this round is to the ETH Argentina team. With the freshness of launching a QF round using CLR, we were able to advise the ETH Argentina QF team and provide some insights to avoid some bugs and issues that we encountered. We are always glad that our experience helps other communities.
This is the second part of our effort to onboard artists into Web3 and NFTs by providing a complete learning experience through a series of interactive workshops in two different cities in Honduras with the partnership of el Museo para la Identidad Nacional and Moonbirds Lunar Society. For more details on the workshops you can read the following article:
For the culmination of The Future of Art, we hosted a physical exhibition open for free to the public at the museum in Tegucigalpa, where 11 artists showcased 3 art pieces each. Some artists brought physical pieces of their work, others included Augmented Reality. We had more than 350 attendees at the exhibition including a field trip from a University in San Pedro Sula and a local High School.
We wanted to provide to the community the opportunity to mint pieces that were showcased in the exhibition. We had an additional onboarding session to teach the 10 artists how to mint NFTs on the Optimism L2 Network using Zora, the artists then picked one piece from the exhibition to be minted here.
Moonbirds hosted an X space to talk about the Future of Art workshops and physical exhibitions with two guest artists (Ahhsun & stupidgiant) who talked about their experience with the event. 178 tuned in, you can listen to the recording here.
This was a collaboration with UCENM University, they have campuses all over Honduras and invited their computer science students for an intro to Ethereum and wallet onboarding. We had the participation of ~80 students from all the campuses.
In a collaboration between ETH Kipu, Ethereum SPS, and Universidad San Pedro Sula USAP, the first and second modules of the Ethereum Developer Pack Web3 program were released. These modules teach the basic concepts of blockchain and Ethereum required to start programming in Solidity.
The first module was 2 classes of 3 hours each and the second was 3 classes.
The Creative Tech Lab (CTL) is a program created by the IDB and Banj to expose creative entrepreneurs to digital technologies, through the Universidad TecnolĂłgica de Honduras (UTH) we were invited to a panel about âDeveloping Art in the Digital Eraâ, we talked about the usage of Ethereum blockchain and NFTs to empower artists. This panel was aimed at participants of the CTL in Honduras and Jamaica, and students of UTH. This participation had 12k views, you can see the recording here.
Powart To The People, a project led by Malcoln a community contributor to whom we are really proud and couldnât forget to mention, collaborated with Proof of Integrity to organize #aPRENDOcripto in Honduras, a free educational program focused on personal finances and blockchain. It is conducted in person within vulnerable neighborhoods, offering participants personalized support from teachers and mentors to enhance the learning experience.
#aPRENDOcripto had 4 structured educational sessions to teach the youth about crypto and 2 sessions for them to have fun while experimenting with practical uses of wallets, crypto, and their personal finances. In total, there were 20 students and 6 collaborators.
There are plans for a second edition for next year. If you want to learn more about the cool work they do, you can follow them @proof_integrity.
@Powart2Dapeople exists to improve the living conditions of children and young people at social risk in the most impoverished neighborhoods in Honduras and Central America through STEAM education, art, science, and technology.
Aula Abierta (Open Class) was an introductory cycle of four talks focused on governance. We want to increase the governance participation of Hondurans, and this collaboration with SEED Latam enabled us to share these discussions directly with the community. The topics included:
What are DAOs?
History of politics and governance lessons to DAOs
How to participate in a DAO
Season 5 of the Optimism Governance
We encouraged the local community to participate in all the talks and hosted the first session talking about: what are DAOs, how they work, their consensus, and their voting mechanism. You can see the recording here:
We cohosted an X Space with Optimism en Español to talk about all the things coming from the Optimism Ecosystem to LATAM, and how the local community can get involved. 357 tuned in, you can listen to the recording here.
The Ethereum SPS community prepared a class for students of the Universidad Autonoma de Honduras Valle de Sula (UNAH-VS) with insights and opportunities in the Ethereum Ecosystem for developers.
The School of Computer Science of the University of San Pedro Sula (USAP) organizes a digital week for the students of the career to learn new technologies. The Ethereum SPS community hosted a workshop to teach the basics of Solidity and how to create an ERC20 and ERC721.
The Ethereum SPS community hosted with the Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana (UNITEC) 3 sessions of onboarding and exploration of the Ethereum Ecosystem with students from different careers such as Computer Science, Business, and Finance.
After an intense NFT exhibition where community members from different cities traveled to Tegucigalpa, we wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to gather and have a planning session for the upcoming activities for the rest of the year and the ETH Latam 2024.
After many big activities in Tegucigalpa, the community deserved some chill time, and what better way than with Pizza and Swag. This was a casual space to gather and talk between assistants and provide some updates on the upcoming activities while eating.
These chill meetings are also a great onboarding opportunity for newbies to learn about the ecosystem and members to update each other on different projects as we partner up to develop new ideas.
This was a virtual meetup focused on explaining how Layer 2 for nontechnical people, it covers a basic understanding of the types of L2s (Optimistic rollups, ZK rollups, Validiums, ) and how they work. Here is the recording of the session:
The Ethereum SPS community has created this unique Ethereum experience.
Each participant pays an entrance fee and contributes a unique word or phrase during this ceremony. These contributions are essential for generating the random number. Once the first 'commit' of the fee and work is done, we proceed to the 'reveal', where all the text strings provided by the participants are used to create the random number that will determine the winner of the accumulated pot and another fortunate winner of the NFT.
The experience has evolved since last quarter and more activities have been happening, the first version was hosted on the Pixel Pay offices and there was a virtual meetup for any participant in the community.
As grassroots communities grow, people who donât align with the values will join, and could be very problematic for leaders and members to deal with toxic behaviors if not treated properly. Sucito from Ethereum SPS researched and created a guide that explains how to handle these behaviors.
The Optimism team has an ongoing experiment to sustainably fund public goods, designed by Vitalik Buterin, the Retroactive Public Goods Funding mechanism was created. Lucy from the Ethereum Tegucigalpa community, was nominated as a Badgeholder for this process, meaning that she will browse and review applications in the RetroPGF to help allocate up to 30m OP.
