Planting the onchain Future

Planting the onchain Future : Summer Workshop at Metrosquash

It was an honor to spend time with the students of Metrosquash during their summer school and to have the opportunity to plant the seed of how to begin their onchain journey.

Improving the planet only takes the actions of each individual. This is why we teach students the importance of measuring their ecological footprint and discuss regenerative finance, a mechanism that will allow them to develop more sustainably.

Over three weeks, students will learn interactively about three main topics: AI, blockchain, and ReFi, while digitally exploring Biolumen, a projector that uses disruptive technologies to protect the environment.

The event was organized by our collective and led by Luis Toro, accompanied by Fabioanaya.eth and artist Ile Designia, and we covered various topics. Luis focused on teaching students about artificial intelligence and regenerative finance. Through online classes and videos from the Biolumen farm in the Coffee Axis, he showcased biodiversity and how to connect blockchain technology with agriculture and more.

Throughout various sessions, Luis planted the idea that to build a better tomorrow, it's necessary to sow a seed of awareness in future, present, and past generations. To achieve this, it is crucial to understand where we come from and where we are going with our actions. This is why our program starts with a journey through the most perfect machine in the universe, planet Earth. He explained to the students how it took 4.5 billion years for humans to become the "thinking" species and summarized the most significant advancements leading up to artificial intelligence, a tool that will be integrated into everything we do and has the potential to help us make smarter decisions.

Teaching about blockchain technology and its potential to build a more secure and transparent internet allows students to develop a new perspective on how they interact with the internet.

From my part, I helped the students take their first steps onchain. I led sessions where I showed them examples of blockchain utilities and the importance of their wallet, which ultimately serves as their digital identity within the blockchain. Many students had the chance to download their first crypto wallet and make onchain transactions, which was very exciting for them as they saw how easy and fast it is to transact within the blockchain. The students also had the opportunity to create an ENS subdomain, helping them understand the concepts of public and private keys thanks to their ENS domain. Then, I gave a brief introduction to the Zora marketplace, a specialized platform where artists can bring all their ideas onchain. The students then created collaborative art through Magma, to mint their first NFT on Base layer 2. Many of them were highly motivated to continue learning.

Ile Designia led the sessions where students created their collaborative artworks using Magma, an unforgettable experience for all involved. She guided them step by step, from the basics of NFTs to a simple and in-depth explanation of what blockchain is and its benefits, sparking the curiosity of many.

Finally, I am extremely proud of the incredible progress we are making in Colombia in web3 and the adoption of new technologies. It fills me with pride that we can plant these seeds in high school students. We will have more updates on the upcoming activities we have planned.

Let's keep building onchain!
