DISCLAIMERS: All NPCS have been revealed from SOFA Maker/Sofa Vision, but there can be more NPCS in SOFAMON (when those reveal)
SOFA did something cool. Besides easily identifiable rares and super rares, by traits and algorithmic rarity # metrics, clearly defined 1/1s..the usual mumbo jumbo.. Inside the collection, they hid 1/1 characters, NPCs.First, WTF is a SOFA?
There are two collections, SOFA Maker and SOFA Visions for a total of 5,555. SOFA Maker is the unrevealed version, with only distinguishable traits being their mint and ID # called “reigns” separated into three tiers: T1-T3. Tier 3 is the highest tier, for ID’s: #1-#1170 (originally tied to those who minted during Dutch Auction) and has the highest chance of Super Rare (T3 = 30%, T2=14% and T1=7%).
This alone isn’t brand new. Azuki Elemental Beans had a similar concept (and I’m sure other lesser known projects will come running to comment they did it first and that’s cool).
Remember the first image, those are NPCs or 1/1s, however they are HIDDEN 1/1s and NOT part of the 1/1 trait, labeled “?” in the collection.
These 1/1s are unidentifiable if searching by “trait” as their metadata change has taken place individually at the description level.
One cool feature of hiding a trait this way, is that there is no easy way for anyone to go and SNIPE these (without having spent time, looking at the collection). It forces people to really study the collection. *For instance, I noticed all of the NPCs have solid BGs and none of them share the same (white, gold, purple, orange, yellow, and red); which means others could emerge in the reamining solid bg colors (silver, blue, gray, green, brown / lilac, indigo, cream, grass, cyan, and dark blue). [alpha]*But also because it throws rarity #s out the window: There are only (6) revealed thus far and NONE of them break the top 100 in disclosed “rarity” numbers. It throws a wrench in the Tier 3 “Reigns” trait of unrevealed, since all revealed thus far were technically Tier 1 (the lowest tier, lowest chance of super rare).
So why should we care? Besides disrupting the rarity # game and forcing people to dive into the collection. The one aspect that most will CARE or understand is the IP game.. Which we all know is hugely overrated and many won’t or can’t “invest” in/build IP.. but since 2021 when BAYC gave users IP power/brought it to attention.. Many have done cool things and built IP and it’s not just the Apes..
But what SOFA is doing, that is unique is that they are already working with and building the IP of characters within their ecosystem and those NPCs are roaming in the collection FREELY for the users to adapt and work with. And it wasn’t a popularity contest, it was left in the hands of the generative algorithmic process of minting. With ZERO big announcements.. Just a sneaky keyword and a a trail of bread crumbs in posts using the IP of the characters.
Oh and stealthy role in the Discord tied to the revealed NPCs
Anyways.. That wraps that up for now. Again this isn’t an endorsement of a project. I don’t know the founders or the team. Just found this interesting and worth sharing. Alpha on how to FIND the next one or three or more NPCS.. We don’t know how many remain, but we know at least three are unrevealed. First someone is going to have to mint it from SOFA Maker.. but when they do it will most likely show up under SOFA Visions with one of these solid BGs:
So just go ahead and “copy trade” my trait selection and keep spamming refresh and looking for clean ones.. You can individually click on each to read the description or go to meta.sofanft.io/api/metadata/sofa/xxxx (replace with sofa number) and check the description to hopefully reveal QUOTE + NPC name
My next post will have to be on the Azuki Collector page.. It’s long overdo and what they recently did with the GUS raffle and Spirit Hoodies could be considered a test for something much larger.. Collector Profiles with badges and emblems should be open sourced, or other projects should step up and implement it instead of relying on Discord. Furthermore collection website should have a Collector’s Profile, individual Collection Page as well as their own Collector page so they can highlight and distinguish their unique collection traits..
