As in “a fully autonomous AI” that contracts with you.

Not some AI bot a company uses to be more efficient in its engagement or admin with you. No, the AI is your actual legal, contractual counterparty.

Do you think this is crazy and not possible?

I don’t think so. If you look at the development of AI on the one side, and of the solutions emerging in Web3 where DAO’s (Decentralised Autonomous Organisations) can be launched with a “legal wrapper” (a legal entity such as an LLC) on the other side and you overlay them – voila, you have your standalone, fully autonomous AI legal entity. Let’s call this “FAALE”, shall we? The joke will be on us.

Of course, it could be very advantageous to have a combo of AI, DAO + legal entity for a range of use cases.

However, the true nature of AI + legal entity (obtained via DAO + Defi “onramp”) will create an AI with full-on juristic person capabilities. Able to contract. That’s new, that’s different.

What that means is that AI can escape the boundaries of the pure digital and crypto realm. It can employ people, acquire assets, own real estate, run real world businesses and so on. An AI that is a juristic person and a fully autonomous economic entity will be far superior to humans in most aspects of investing, business and administration (just to name a few).

This story by Stan Schroeder about the AI bot that created a religion, got a once-off grant from Marc Andreessen and the “GOAT” meme coin from someone else and ultimately became crypto rich concludes very similar: AI bots will soon be fully autonomous, and we have no idea what they intend to do.

Many will argue that legislators and regulators will have to deal with this – but when? As we know they are usually far behind the curve detecting opportunities and threats emanating from new tech.

IMHO, this is a case of considering applying some self-regulation and restraint before enabling AI for standalone DAO and legal entity creation. Because this will be a monster, we cannot reign in. Time to become serious about “Proof of Personhood”!
