Sony Network Communications, a subsidiary of Sony, has teamed up with Astar Network to launch a Web3 incubation program for Web3 startups. The program is aimed at developers who are building decentralized applications (dApps) across multiple chains like Polkadot, Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, Cosmos, and many more.
Sony has shown significant interest in the Web3 space since 2021 and has been exploring metaverse, NFTs, and gaming. The company has even filed patents for NFT integration in gaming. The partnership with Astar Network is seen as a strategic move to further Sony's involvement in the space.
Astar Network is a blockchain network layer on the Polkadot blockchain that aims to provide developers with infrastructure to build dApps across multiple chains. The incubation program will provide developers with true interoperability when building their projects, especially for game developers who want to launch on multiple chains.
The program will run from mid-March to mid-June, with a Demo Day held in June at Sony Group Corporation Headquarters in Tokyo during Japan Blockchain. Around 200 people, including companies and investors participating in the incubation program, will attend.
"We are pleased to launch the Web3 incubation program with Sony Network Communications, one of the Sony Group's companies, which has been involved in the NFT sector and other Web3 initiatives within the Group," said Sota Watanabe, CEO of Startale Labs and Astar Network. "We hope to share the knowledge and resources of both companies to provide value to the participants selected for the program and create new use cases and projects."
The program will accept 10 to 15 cohorts who will have access to innovators, mentoring and feedback on strategies and development from Sony Network Communications and Astar Foundation. This partnership marks another step towards the widespread adoption of Web3 and the Metaverse. The gaming industry stands to benefit from the incubation program as developers will have access to the latest infrastructure and resources to build their games on multiple chains.
