What is Web3.Unreal?
Game7 has announced the launch of open-source plugin Web3.Unreal on its public GitHub repository. Web3.Unreal is designed for Unreal Engine developers to integrate blockchain functionality into their games. Some highlights include seamless integration of blockchain wallets into game engines and complete plugins which track how many NFTs or tokens the game has produced/are in circulation. This is a significant integration that will allow game developers to seamlessly use Unreal Engine for web3 games. The goal of this venture is to accelerate the development of open source web3 games.
What is Unreal Engine?
Unreal Engine claims to be the world’s most open and advanced real-time 3D creation tool. It’s free to use for creating content, custom projects, internal projects, and game development, but a 5% royalty kicks in when your title earns over $1 million USD. A huge advantage of Unreal is that it has a high degree of portability as it supports desktop, mobile, console and virtual reality platforms. The most recent release of Unreal Engine 5 includes the revolutionary Nanite feature which is an engine that allows for high detailed photographic source material to be imported into games and makes it super easy for developers to create high level graphics and detail without having to spend massive amounts of time creating every little detail from scratch. Some highlight titles that are using Unreal Engine 5 include: Fortnite, Legend of Ymir (WeMade), Stalker 2, The Matrix Awakens, The Witcher, Gears of War and The Next Tomb Raider.
