On September 2nd, Gametaverse hosted an AMA in our #ama Discord channel with Meta Apes, a free-to-play & play-to-earn strategy game with a great community. Killia from Meta Apes took part in the discussion to give us a detailed explanation of their tokenomics, gameplay, business model, visions, etc. and update us on their development progress and marketing launch plans.

Session One: About Meta Apes
Q1: Please give an introduction to Meta Apes.
Meta Apes is a free-to-play, play & earn MMO strategy game designed for mobile. It is set in a post-apocalyptic world, in which humanity has come to an end and a new era ruled by Apes has begun. Next on the agenda is space domination, and each player will have to work closely with their gang to win the ultimate race to space.
Meta Apes launched at the very end of May, and it is currently available on both Google Play & App Store. Additionally, it is the first gaming application to launch on the BNB Sidechain.
If you’ve played any other games of this genre, you’ll be generally familiar with the core gameplay, which boils down to 4 key components - 1) building, 2) competition, 3) community & 4) exploration.
Q2: Tell us about NFT fighters. Do players need NFTs to play Meta Apes?
Firstly, Meta Apes is a free-to-play game and there’s no entry fee and can be played without NFT fighters as well. Anyone can play by downloading it for free on their Android or iOS smartphone. This approach helped us build a strong community of 375k+ players from around the world.
NFT fighters fuel the play-and-earn aspect of Meta Apes. By holding them, users generate SHELL tokens, the in-game currency. Using this, players can speed up their gaming progress. Furthermore, the NFT fighters come with additional skills & increased power that give them an edge over other players. Non-NFT fighters have 4 skills, whereas the NFT fighters get additional 1-3 skills.
On top of this, they also have some cosmetic effects, such as different backgrounds, lighting, halo & display of the user ID. Soon we will be introducing a fighter pairing system that you can benefit from if you have an NFT fighter.
Meta Apes NFT fighters can be bought from Galler.io now. We will soon be launching a blindbox event where you can buy new NFT fighters right from our marketplace on the website. Stay tuned to us on social media for updates.

Q3: Meta Apes is the first project/game using BNB Sidechain. Why have you chosen it and how have you managed to use this technology?
We decided on using BNB Sidechain because by having our own chain, we are able to achieve much greater customization, higher performance and greater scalability, all with the sound architecture and security of the BNB chain. Ultimately, this allows both the developers and the gamers to have a much better experience by helping avoid some of the common issues, such as network congestion, which leads to a poor gaming experience. Making sure the players have the best experience possible is our #1 priority & something we’ll continue to work on to achieve long-term success as a community.
Q4: Please explain the tokenomics.
We believe a two-token model helps us create a more sustainable economy for Meta Apes.
The two tokens are - 1) SHELL, our utility token and 2) PEEL, our governance & native gas token.
SHELL is the utility token or the in-game currency of Meta Apes. There are multiple ways to earn/generate SHELL. One is by holding NFT fighters, and the others are via in-game rewards, in-app purchases, or on PancakeSwap. As mentioned earlier, it is used in a variety of ways in the game, such as upgrading buildings & NFT fighters, accelerating building & researching, as well as buying in-game resources (e.g., iron, food, etc.). This diversity of emission & consumption channels makes the SHELL economy have a lot more sustainability and flexibility.

PEEL is the governance & native gas token of Ape Chain (which is the name of our own chain on BNB Sidechain). The Meta Apes token economy is designed such that all of the revenue & value generated inside the game accrue to our governance token holders, even including the gas fees as we operate on our own chain. PEEL will be used for NFT purchases/trades, performance-based rewards (i.e., rewards for top performing gangs & players), select critical in-game activities (e.g., final upgrade of NFT fighters, etc.), gas fees, staking & in-game validators, and last but not least, governance & voting.
$PEEL IFO took place on PancakeSwap on August 4th, and we raised over 235.17% of our target.

Q5: What can we expect from Meta Apes in the near future?
Our player base and community are growing. We plan to support this by adding a new server. In the new server, the whole progress will restart, making it an even playing field for newbies. Also, we will be adding cross-server NFT support so that players can use their NFT fighters wherever they want. As mentioned earlier, we will be promoting the win-to-earn feature of the game through various in-game events. You really don’t wanna miss that.
Also, we are going to add more utility to $PEEL with the new blind box sale that will take place on our own marketplace.
Meta Apes was recently selected to participate in BNB Chain’s MVB V Accelerator Program. We are super excited about this and looking forward to leveraging the learnings from the program to continue improving our product.
Over the course of the next few months, we plan to introduce a variety of in-game features that drive additional value for our players, such as the fighter pairing system, NFT collectibles and PEEL staking. Session Two: Utilities & Risks
Q1: Hey team, what's your design process like?
We have in house web3 and web2 team in charge of different aspects of the game. Our web2 team designs gameplay and works on new features for the game. Our Web 3 Team ensures our blockchain technology is strong and provides the users with easy-to-use web3 features.
Q2: Can players earn PEEL?
Yes, we will be introducing events in the game that reward players that actively participate and engage, AND perform well. It is not just about “play-to-earn” or individual gameplay - you have to collaborate & strategize with the other players in your gang/clan and “win-to-earn”, which means actively battling against other players, completing quests, leveling up your fighters, taking over the launchpad, and more.
Q3: What advantages for long-term players & investors and how do #MetaApes keep the way? Is it risky when the whole current market is down?
We gonna launch more new servers, not only to attract more new players, but also for long-term players & investors' stable income, and those NFT may cross server, or we will hold some cross server contest, and no matter which server, players and investors can get good experience, we launched at the bear market, and we survive, players trust us, and we won't betray!

Q4: Could you explain more about your own NFT marketplace? Can I sell or exchange my NFTs in that marketplace? Are there any certain requirements for users who want to buy and sell their NFTs in that marketplace?
Yep our marketplace is on our official website, besides that, Meta Apes NFT fighters can be bought from Galler.io now. We will soon be launching a blindbox event where you can buy new NFT fighters right from our marketplace on the website.
Q5: Can you explain the business model and the in-app purchase of SHELL?
Meta Apes has a unique and innovative business model that differentiates itself from the other Web3 games. The in-app purchase of SHELL helps us create real revenue for the community. In general, all of the revenue from the ecosystem will accrue to the PEEL DAO, who will then decide how to use that revenue (e.g., burn/buyback PEEL).
And w recently announced a quarterly $PEEL burn program. The first quarterly $PEEL burn was completed on 8/29, in which 1,670,199 PEEL (50% of our quarterly revenue of ~$580k USD) were burnt.
