i don't know shit about fuck

gm.

many things have happened in the past weeks since i last wrote, both in my life and in the world. i have been meaning to draw themes and write something nice, deep, and meaningful, but i also remember a friend saying that i should just write about what i think… even if it’s a small and undeveloped thought.

so i thought i might write today on the concept of “i don’t know shit about fuck”. in the web3 circles i run in, we say this a lot. “i don’t know shit about fuck” is often appended with “i’m just a stick figure on the internet”. it means, i might have an opinion, but hey, what do i know, don’t take me too seriously.

we are in the midst of a growing crisis in the middle east, both a geopolitical crisis as well as a humanitarian one. among other tragedies, a hospital has been blown up and many people have died. another tragedy is that everyone and their mother behind their shiny iphones in their reading nook now has an opinion on middle east peace.

and worse, now they have gone so far as to call out people who have not expressed any outrage openly online.

it is outrageous how audacious our opinions have become online and how very, very short-lived our collective memory is. Performative outrage does little to address the complex challenges that trigger persecution and war. Instead, it serves mostly as a social currency, a way for people to loudly proclaim their virtue without taking meaningful action or even deeply understanding the issues at hand.

the ethos of “I don't know shit about fuck” comes across as not only a call for humility but also an admission that our opinions are not definitive judgments. It opens the floor for dialogue and other people’s opinions. It tells us it’s okay to have an opinion (or choose not to express one), it’s ok not to have all the answers, but it’s not okay to let our half-baked opinions stand in for thoughtful engagement.

use it more, that’s what i think. but hey, i don’t know shit about fuck, i’m just a stick figure on the internet.
